Job Overview
The Pharmacy Research Technician is primarily responsible for assisting with standard pharmacy operational practices, investigational drug research and advocating for safety and protocol integrity while communicating effectively to ensure appropriate conduct of investigational drug clinical trials. This position also spends a portion of time performing the job duties of a Pharmacy Technician; under the direction of a licensed pharmacist and following established policies and procedures, performs a variety of technical procedures to support hospital pharmacy operations.
The Investigational Drug Services supports the Child Health Research Enterprise and the research mission of the Children's Hospital Colorado.

Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Rotating hours, Monday-Friday, 6:30am - 5pm, no weekends or holidays

Duties & Responsibilities
Participates in general Investigational Drug Service pharmacy operations including sustained working knowledge of non-sterile and sterile drug preparation to include USP797 and USP800.
Maintains human subjects training through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program to include Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and necessary investigational drug protocol training per the investigational drug sponsor.
Maintains responsibility and accurate recordkeeping for the management of investigational drug inventory to include ordering, receipt, storage, accountability, return, temperature monitoring and expiration dating.
Coordinates scheduling of investigational drug product patient dispensing, site-initiation visits, monitor visits, audit visits, etc. Processes investigational drug clinical trial billing through the electronic medical record.
Performs tasks and maintains knowledge in various software applications including Epic, Microsoft Office, QuickBooks and Vestigo.
Participates in quality and safety initiatives and practices within the Investigational Drug Service as delegated. Reports adverse drug events and medication variances using the hospital’s variance reporting program (QSRS).
Establishes relationships with the Child Health Research Enterprise including primary investigators, research institute staff, research coordinators and external investigational sponsors.
Performs general duties of a pharmacy technician including but not limited to;
Prepares unit-dose nonhazardous and hazardous medications and drug supplies for dispensing as directed by a licensed pharmacist
Restocks and delivers medications to patient care areas or clinics, as assigned, including automated dispensing machines; assists in resolving discrepancies
Prepares non-parenteral nonhazardous and hazardous medications for dispensing including controlled substances; delivers medications
Collects, monitors, documents and reports on activities according to hospital and department policy, and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Maintains environmental cleanliness in accordance with regulatory and policy requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- EDUCATION – High School Diploma or Equivalent
- EXPERIENCE –Two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience
- Sterile compounding experience preferred
- EQUIVALENCY – Completion of pharmacy technician program may substitute for one (1) year of the experience requirement.
- CERTIFICATION(S) –
- State of Colorado Pharmacy Technician (PHAT) Certification
- Certificate through a nationally recognized certification board or body approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcare Association (NHA)
Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Hourly Range: $23.54 to $35.31
