Research Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a research job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's three dominant hiring clusters: the Texas Medical Center for biomedical and clinical research, the Energy Corridor for applied energy and environmental research, and the universities along the Midtown and Museum District corridor for academic and policy roles. Candidates with hands-on lab skills, published work, or internship experience at Houston institutions stand out. Networking through local professional associations and university career offices also accelerates hiring in this market.
Which companies hire researchs in Houston?
Companies currently hiring researchs in Houston include UTHealth Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, and Houston Methodist, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Houston's research employer base is unusually broad, mixing major hospital systems and medical schools at the Texas Medical Center with energy majors, independent research institutes, and federal contractors clustered across the metro.
Are there remote research jobs in Houston?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on role type. Hands-on lab, clinical, and field research positions require on-site presence, while literature review, data analysis, health economics, and policy research roles are often remote-eligible. About 19% of research openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the highest concentration of remote options in health outcomes, market research, and computational roles.
How can I get a research job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is a research assistant or research coordinator role at one of the Texas Medical Center institutions, which routinely hire early-career candidates with a relevant bachelor's degree and lab coursework. Houston's large university presence, including Rice University and the University of Houston, also generates paid undergraduate and post-baccalaureate research positions. Volunteering on faculty projects or completing a local internship builds the portfolio that Houston employers expect before a full research appointment.
Which industries hire the most researchs in Houston?
The sectors hiring the most researchs in Houston are Education, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Houston's position as both the global energy capital and the home of the world's largest medical complex means research demand is anchored by those two industries, with supporting hiring in aerospace, environmental consulting, and higher education filling out the local market.
