Respiratory Therapist Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a respiratory therapist in Louisiana?
To work as a respiratory therapist in Louisiana, you must hold a license issued by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners. You first complete an accredited respiratory therapy program at the associate or bachelor's level, then pass the National Board for Respiratory Care exams to earn your CRT or RRT credential. After passing, you apply for a Louisiana license before practicing in the state.
How much do respiratory therapists make in Louisiana?
Respiratory therapists in Louisiana earn a median of about $75,240 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,520 for the lowest 10% to over $91,200 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire respiratory therapists in Louisiana?
Employers hiring respiratory therapists in Louisiana right now include Ochsner Health, CHRISTUS Health, and LCMC Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Louisiana's largest health systems, regional hospitals, and long-term acute care facilities account for the majority of open positions across the state.
Which Louisiana cities have the most respiratory therapist jobs?
New Orleans, Lafayette, and Alexandria have the most respiratory therapist openings in Louisiana. New Orleans leads because of its dense concentration of academic medical centers and trauma facilities, while Baton Rouge and Shreveport are anchored by major regional health systems that serve large surrounding patient populations, keeping demand steady in those metros.
Are there remote respiratory therapist jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Respiratory therapy is a hands-on clinical role that requires direct patient contact, so nearly all positions are on-site. About 8% of respiratory therapist openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with those exceptions most often found in sleep study interpretation, telehealth triage, or education and training roles.
How can I get hired as a respiratory therapist in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate respiratory therapist positions at large Louisiana health systems such as Ochsner Health or Our Lady of the Lake, which regularly bring on new CRT holders and offer structured clinical onboarding. Completing a clinical rotation at a Louisiana facility during your program often leads directly to a job offer. Holding an active Louisiana license and BLS certification before you apply removes the most common barrier employers cite for entry-level candidates.
Where can I find and apply to respiratory therapist jobs in Louisiana?
