What You'll Do
- Lead regular testing of applicable BSA/AML/OFAC and consumer obligations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of controls designed to mitigate regulatory and operational risks.
- Document testing results, identify issues and gaps, determine corrective action, and support issue tracking and resolution.
- Assist in managing the company’s third-party risk management (TPRM) program by supporting processes, maintaining documentation, and monitoring controls.
- Conduct initial and ongoing risk assessments for vendors, focusing on areas like security practices, financial health, and compliance posture.
- Support vendor onboarding by ensuring contracts and risk-related documentation are complete and compliant with company policies.
- Stay up-to-date on key regulatory changes and best practices related to third party risk management.
- Prepare summary reports and dashboards for leadership to communicate testing findings, open issues, and vendor risk trends.
- Assist in building, configuring, and optimizing the GRC platform to automate compliance testing, centralize vendor risk assessments, and streamline issue management.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for SCRA and OFAC compliance, providing regulatory guidance
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in compliance testing, third-party risk management, vendor management, audit, or related risk and compliance functions within the banking, financial services, or fintech industries.
- Working knowledge of consumer lending regulations is preferred; willingness to learn and develop expertise in this area is essential.
- Professional certifications such as CRCM, CTPRP, CTPRA, or similar are preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and engage with external vendors.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using compliance, governance, risk management, or reporting systems.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to build subject matter expertise in compliance, regulatory risk, and third-party risk management.

Risk Management Lead Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a risk management lead job in Chicago?
Target Chicago's dense concentration of financial institutions, insurance carriers, and large healthcare systems, where risk management lead demand is strongest. The Loop and River North house major corporate headquarters that regularly promote from within or hire laterally. Candidates with enterprise risk frameworks, regulatory compliance experience, or audit backgrounds stand out in this market. Building a network through Chicago-area finance and risk management professional groups also opens doors that job boards alone don't.
Which companies hire risk management leads in Chicago?
Chicago risk management lead roles are posted by JPMorganChase, Northern Trust, and Golub Capital and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's employer mix is especially broad, ranging from globally headquartered insurers and banks in the Loop to mid-size manufacturers and logistics firms in the surrounding metro.
Are there remote risk management lead jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role's scope. Enterprise and analytical risk functions tend to be more remote-friendly, while roles tied to on-site operations or physical asset oversight are typically in person. About 60% of risk management lead openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common among financial services and consulting employers headquartered in the Loop.
How can I get a risk management lead job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through a risk analyst or compliance analyst role at one of the city's large insurance companies, regional banks, or hospital systems, which consistently hire junior risk professionals and develop them into lead positions. Internal promotions are common, so joining a large Chicago employer in a supporting role and pursuing credentials like the FRM or CRISC while on the job is a proven local strategy. Entry-level audit roles at Chicago's major professional services firms also provide a direct bridge into risk leadership.
Which industries hire the most risk management leads in Chicago?
Chicago risk management lead roles concentrate in Banking & Financial Services and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's status as a global hub for financial trading, insurance underwriting, and large integrated health systems means these sectors consistently generate more risk leadership openings than in most other U.S. cities.
