Strategy Manager Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a strategy manager in Illinois?
The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in business, economics, or finance, then building several years of experience in consulting, corporate planning, or business analysis before moving into a strategy manager role. Illinois does not require a state-issued license for this position. Many Illinois employers, particularly in Chicago's dense corporate sector, favor candidates who have completed an MBA or who have progressed through a structured rotational or high-potential leadership program at a large organization.
Which companies hire strategy managers in Illinois?
Employers hiring strategy managers in Illinois right now include CDW, AbbVie, and Kraft Heinz, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and large consulting practices in Chicago means a wide range of industries, from healthcare and logistics to retail and financial services, generate consistent openings for this role.
Which Illinois cities have the most strategy manager jobs?
Chicago, Downers Grove, and North Chicago account for the most strategy manager openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the largest share, anchored by its headquarters density, major consulting firms, and financial institutions, while Naperville and other suburbs benefit from large corporate campuses and regional offices that frequently house strategy and business development functions.
Are there remote strategy manager jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 70% of strategy manager openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based, analytical nature of the role. Work that involves independent research, financial modeling, and document production tends to be most remote-friendly, while responsibilities tied to executive alignment or cross-functional workshops more often require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a strategy manager in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an associate or analyst role in corporate strategy, business operations, or management consulting, then moving up from there. Large Illinois employers such as those in Chicago's financial district and healthcare systems like Northwestern Medicine and Rush run rotational analyst programs that feed into strategy functions. A strong MBA from a program like the University of Chicago Booth School of Business or Northwestern Kellogg carries significant weight with Illinois employers and opens doors for career-changers without direct strategy experience.
Where can I find and apply to strategy manager jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to strategy manager jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that match your experience and location preferences and apply directly to the ones that fit.
