Robotics Internships
Robotics internships give university students, recent graduates, and early-career switchers hands-on project experience, mentorship from working engineers, and, at many employers, a path toward a full-time offer. Openings are concentrated in Technology & Software, Retail, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, with Amazon, PlusAI, and AEVEX among the employers posting roles now.

Here at Humanoid, we believe in a future where robots amplify human potential. That’s why we’ve set out on a mission to build the world’s most capable, commercially-scalable, and safe humanoid robots. We’re bringing that mission to life with HMND‑01 Alpha - our rapidly developed humanoid platform now running in real industrial pilots - and we’re growing the team to take it even further.
About the Role
We're looking for a motivated Robotics Engineering Co-op to join our Boston-based team. This is a hands-on role working alongside engineers on real hardware development — from early-stage prototyping to integration and testing. The position is available to start immediately and can run through the fall, which is ideal for students on a co-op cycle
What You'll Do
Day-to-day responsibilities will vary based on current project needs, but you can expect to be involved in hardware design, circuit debugging, PCB review, component selection, lab testing, and supporting the broader engineering team on robotics development initiatives.
What We're Looking For
Currently pursuing a BS in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or a related field such as Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Robotics
Comfortable working in a lab environment with hands-on hardware
Familiarity with common EE tools and concepts (multimeters, oscilloscopes, schematics, etc.)
A portfolio alongside your application. This can include class projects, personal builds, GitHub repositories, design files, or anything else that demonstrates hands-on experience with hardware or engineering work.

Tips for Your Robotics Internship Search
Apply for summer internships in the fall
Large employers in aerospace, automotive, and industrial automation close summer robotics internship applications well before the new year. Smaller companies and co-op programs post much closer to start dates. Starting your search in September gives you the widest pool of structured programs before they fill.
Build a project portfolio before you apply
Robotics recruiters screening intern candidates want something concrete to evaluate. Document two or three hands-on projects with the tools, languages, and hardware you used, a GitHub repository with working code, a CAD portfolio, or a video of a robot you built and programmed tells a hiring team far more than a list of coursework.
Work your campus network alongside direct applications
Campus career fairs surface structured internship programs tied to your university, recruiters there often move faster for students they meet in person. Your professors and career center staff frequently know which employers recruit from your school before roles post publicly. Apply directly to companies running smaller cohorts at the same time to reach employers who skip campus recruiting entirely.
Practice your technical screen before you submit applications
Most robotics engineering intern screens include a coding round focused on data structures, algorithms, and sometimes kinematics or control problems. Practice explaining your reasoning out loud as you work through problems, interviewers weigh how you think through a solution as much as whether you reach the right answer.
Target structured internship pipelines at larger companies
Many aerospace, defense, and industrial automation companies run cohort-based internship programs designed specifically to train people new to robotics. These programs recruit early in the fall and fill fast. Identify the programs that match your degree and interests, then apply in the first week after applications open.
Set your work-type filter before you start searching
On-site roles are 100% of the robotics internships listed here. Decide whether you can relocate or commute for an on-site position before you start applying, then filter by location and work type so you are not spending time on roles you cannot take. Migrate Mate's work-type filter lets you narrow to remote, hybrid, or on-site listings in one step.
Robotics Internships: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a robotics internship?
Lead with coursework, personal projects, and a portfolio rather than work history, hiring teams expect limited experience at the intern level. For robotics candidates, a GitHub repository with documented code and working demos gives recruiters something concrete to assess. Pair direct applications with campus career fairs, where recruiters often move faster for students they meet in person.
Can a robotics internship turn into a full-time job?
Many employers extend return offers to strong interns, but conversion is never guaranteed. What drives it is performance on real work, available headcount on the team at the time, and whether the team is growing. Position for a return offer by owning your project deliverables and asking your manager early about the team's hiring plans, without counting on a specific outcome.
When should I apply for robotics internships?
Earlier than most students expect. Large employers, especially in aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing technology, recruit summer interns the preceding fall, with applications closing before winter break. Smaller companies and co-op programs post much closer to start dates, so openings appear year-round. Check listings regularly rather than waiting for a single application season.
Are robotics internships paid?
Most professional robotics internships in the United States are paid. Compensation varies by company size, industry, and location, a large automotive manufacturer in Detroit pays differently than a seed-stage robotics startup. Where an employer discloses pay, the listing shows it. Unpaid internships are rare in technical fields but do exist at some nonprofit and research settings.
What should a robotics internship resume include?
Lead with projects, not work history. List two or three complete, documented projects with the tools, programming languages, and hardware platforms you used, and link to the work directly, whether that's a GitHub repository, a CAD portfolio, or a published paper. Add relevant coursework such as control systems, computer vision, or embedded programming. Keep it to one page.
Are there remote robotics internships?
Yes. Remote and hybrid roles make up 0% of the robotics internship listings here, with the rest on-site. Remote cohorts tend to fill fast since they draw applicants from across the country, so apply early once you find a role that fits. Filter by work type to see remote and hybrid listings separately from on-site openings.
What is an FIRST Robotics or defense-sector internship program?
Several large aerospace and defense employers run structured cohort internship programs specifically for robotics and systems engineering students, recruiting in the fall for the following summer. These programs pair interns with a dedicated project team, include structured mentorship, and are competitive, applicants who apply in the first wave after programs open have a stronger chance of moving through screening before headcount fills.
Can international students get robotics internships?
Yes. F-1 students can intern through CPT while enrolled or through OPT work authorization after finishing a degree, and the employer does not have to file anything for either, so many companies are open to international interns. Confirm your eligibility and timing with your university's international student office before accepting an offer.
