Entry Level School Social Worker Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level school social worker job?
Most entry level school social worker positions require a Master of Social Work degree and a state school social work license or certification, so verifying your state's requirements early is essential. Employers at this level look closely at supervised field placements, practicum hours, and any internship experience in school or youth settings. Tailoring your resume to highlight student support, crisis intervention, and IEP collaboration skills gives you a clear edge over candidates with generic social work backgrounds.
Which companies hire entry level school social workers?
Companies hiring entry level school social workers right now include UNM Hospital, Chimes, and Uncommon Schools, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Public school districts, charter school networks, and educational staffing agencies tend to post the most openings at this level, particularly for candidates who are newly licensed or completing their first year of post-graduate practice.
Are there remote entry level school social worker jobs?
Yes, though most school social work is on-site by nature. About 0% of entry level school social worker openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with those roles typically focused on telehealth counseling, case coordination, or district-level support rather than daily in-person student services. Candidates open to hybrid arrangements tend to find the widest range of options.
Are these new grad school social worker jobs?
Yes, the listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior school social worker roles alongside other entry level postings. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes candidates with zero to two years of experience and treats completed internships, practicum placements, or a strong portfolio of student casework as equivalent to paid work history. If a posting lists experience as preferred rather than required, it is generally open to new grad applicants.
Which industries hire the most entry level school social workers?
Entry Level school social worker roles concentrate in Education, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Government & Public Sector, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors drive the most hiring at this level because public funding cycles, student enrollment growth, and federal mandates for mental health support in schools consistently create openings for early-career practitioners who are newly licensed and ready to take on caseloads.
