Scientist Jobs in Tampa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a scientist job in Tampa?
Focus your search on Tampa's strongest hiring sectors: life sciences and pharmaceutical research concentrated near USF Health and Moffitt Cancer Center, environmental consulting firms working Gulf Coast projects, and clinical research organizations clustered in the Westshore and Hyde Park corridors. Candidates who combine hands-on laboratory or field experience with familiarity in regulated industries, particularly FDA-compliant environments or environmental compliance, stand out most in Tampa's competitive market.
Which companies hire scientists in Tampa?
Companies currently hiring scientists in Tampa include BayCare Health System, Quest Diagnostics, and University of South Florida, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Tampa's hiring landscape skews toward research hospitals, environmental consulting firms, and life sciences companies, alongside federal contractors with operations tied to MacDill Air Force Base.
Are there remote scientist jobs in Tampa?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the type of scientific work, since laboratory, field, and clinical roles are almost always on-site while data analysis, regulatory affairs, and scientific writing positions are far more remote-friendly. About 17% of scientist openings tied to Tampa are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. In Tampa, remote-eligible roles tend to cluster in regulatory science, biostatistics, and environmental data review rather than bench or field work.
How can I get a scientist job in Tampa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Tampa is through research assistant or laboratory technician roles at institutions like Moffitt Cancer Center, USF Health, or Tampa General Hospital, which regularly hire early-career candidates. Environmental consulting firms working on Gulf Coast remediation projects also bring on entry-level field technicians. A bachelor's degree in a relevant science discipline, any internship or co-op experience, and basic certification in laboratory safety or GIS give Tampa candidates a practical edge over general applicants.
Which industries hire the most scientists in Tampa?
Most scientist openings in Tampa sit in Consulting & Professional Services, Technology & Software, and Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Tampa's position as a regional hub for healthcare systems, Gulf Coast environmental compliance, and defense-adjacent research drives sustained demand across those sectors.
