Security Architect Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security architect in Rhode Island?
Most security architects in Rhode Island enter through a computer science, information systems, or cybersecurity degree followed by several years in roles such as network engineer, systems administrator, or security analyst. Rhode Island does not issue a state-specific license for security architects, so employers rely on industry credentials. The CISSP is the most widely required certification among Rhode Island defense contractors, financial institutions, and hospital systems. Gaining experience with compliance frameworks relevant to Rhode Island's dominant industries accelerates the path to an architect-level position.
How much do security architects make in Rhode Island?
Security architects in Rhode Island earn a median of about $109,420 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,880 for the lowest 10% to over $170,180 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security architects in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island security architect roles are posted by FM, CVS Health, and Citizens and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of financial services firms, federal defense contractors, and large healthcare networks means that architect-level security roles are tied to institutions with ongoing, long-term hiring needs rather than short-term project cycles.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most security architect jobs?
Johnston, Middletown, and Providence account for the largest share of security architect openings in Rhode Island. Providence anchors the market as the state's economic and financial center, drawing demand from large insurers, universities, and hospital networks, while Woonsocket and Warwick attract openings through established corporate headquarters and defense-aligned technology operations that maintain dedicated security teams.
Are there remote security architect jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 44% of security architect openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of much of the work. The portions of the role focused on policy development, threat modeling, and architecture documentation tend to be most remote-eligible, while positions requiring hands-on lab work or access to classified systems are more likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a security architect in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a junior security analyst or systems administrator role at one of Rhode Island's large healthcare networks, insurance carriers, or defense contractors, then building toward architect responsibilities over time. Employers such as Amica Mutual and hospital systems affiliated with Lifespan often hire entry-level IT professionals who rotate into security functions. Earning a CompTIA Security+ or pursuing a cybersecurity certificate through the University of Rhode Island or Rhode Island College signals commitment to the field and gives candidates a practical edge before pursuing the CISSP.
