Security Architect Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security architect in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a security architect, so the path runs through education and industry credentials. Most roles require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or cybersecurity, followed by several years in roles such as security engineer or systems analyst. Earning the CISSP, which is widely treated as the benchmark credential by Texas employers, significantly strengthens a candidacy. Large Texas industries including financial services, defense, and energy also value hands-on familiarity with NIST and FedRAMP frameworks.
How much do security architects make in Texas?
Security architects in Texas earn a median of about $129,890 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,990 for the lowest 10% to over $178,550 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security architects in Texas?
Employers hiring security architects in Texas right now include AbbVie, Oceaneering, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, financial institutions, and energy majors means demand is spread across multiple sectors rather than being driven by a single industry.
Which Texas cities have the most security architect jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most security architect openings in Texas. Dallas leads because of its dense concentration of financial services headquarters and technology firms, Austin draws heavily from the fast-growing tech sector, and Houston's demand is driven by energy majors and the large healthcare and port-logistics institutions that require robust OT and enterprise security programs.
Are there remote security architect jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 83% of security architect openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the fact that architecture work is largely design-oriented, documentation-heavy, and collaborative over video rather than requiring a physical presence. The most remote-friendly sub-areas are cloud security architecture and policy and governance work, while roles touching OT networks or on-site data centers typically require in-person availability.
How can I get hired as a security architect in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a security engineer, network engineer, or IT analyst role rather than applying for architect titles directly. Large Texas employers in defense and financial services, including government contractors based in the Dallas-Fort Worth corridor, regularly hire junior security engineers and offer structured rotation programs that expose candidates to architecture work. Earning an entry-level credential such as CompTIA Security+ and building a portfolio of architecture diagrams or threat models from lab environments gives a candidate a concrete edge when competing against other applicants without direct title experience.
Where can I find and apply to security architect jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to security architect jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that interest you.
