IT Program Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an IT program manager in Texas?
IT program manager roles in Texas do not require a state-issued license, but most employers expect a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or business alongside the Project Management Professional certification. Earning a PMP through the Project Management Institute is the most recognized credential in Texas hiring. Many candidates build toward the role by first working as a project coordinator or business analyst, accumulating the experience hours the PMP exam requires.
Which companies hire IT program managers in Texas?
Employers hiring IT program managers in Texas right now include Amazon, Alvarez & Marsal, and Google, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, large financial institutions, and Fortune 500 headquarters means demand is consistent year-round rather than seasonal.
Which Texas cities have the most IT program manager jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most IT program manager openings in Texas. Dallas and Houston drive volume through their dense clusters of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and healthcare systems, while Austin's technology sector produces a high share of openings relative to its size, particularly in cloud and software delivery programs.

Yes, and more than most fields. IT program management is a desk-based, communication-driven role that translates well to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 16% of IT program manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly this role has shifted since enterprise technology teams normalized distributed work. The most remote-friendly specialties are cloud program management and Agile delivery coordination.
How can I get hired as an IT program manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a project coordinator or junior business analyst within an IT department, then earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential to signal readiness for program-level work. Large Texas employers in healthcare IT, defense, and financial services regularly post coordinator roles that do not require prior program management experience. Texas Instruments, USAA, and large health systems in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston areas are known to develop program management talent internally from these entry-level positions.
