Senior IT Architect Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior it architect in Texas?
Most senior it architects in Texas move up through progressive IT roles, typically starting in systems administration, software engineering, or infrastructure before earning architecture responsibilities. Texas does not require a state-issued license for the role, so the path centers on experience and credentials. Industry certifications like TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, or Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect Expert carry significant weight with Texas employers and help distinguish candidates at the senior level.
How much do senior IT architects make in Texas?
Senior IT architects in Texas earn a median of about $133,310 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,110 for the lowest 10% to over $191,800 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior it architects in Texas?
Employers hiring senior it architects in Texas right now include Boston Consulting, Burns & McDonnell, and Koch, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major energy firms, and large financial institutions means sustained demand for senior architecture talent across both enterprise and regulated-industry settings.
Which Texas cities have the most senior it architect jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin account for the most senior it architect openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth leads due to its dense cluster of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and technology companies, while Austin's growing tech sector and Houston's energy and healthcare industries drive strong demand in those metros.
Are there remote senior it architect jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. Architecture work is heavily design-oriented and documentation-driven, making it well-suited to remote arrangements. About 30% of senior it architect openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed tech teams have become. Cloud strategy, solution design, and vendor evaluation work are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a senior it architect in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a junior solutions architect or systems engineer role at a large Texas employer, then building toward architecture responsibilities over time. Companies like Dell Technologies, Lockheed Martin, and USAA run rotational technology programs and associate architect tracks that bring in candidates with limited architecture-specific experience. Earning a foundational cloud certification, such as AWS or Azure Associate, and building a portfolio of documented system designs strengthens any application at this stage.
Where can I find and apply to senior it architect jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to senior it architect jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers. Find roles that match your experience and apply directly to each one.
