Security Architect Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security architect in Washington?
Washington does not require a state-issued license to work as a security architect, so the path centers on education and industry credentials. Most roles require a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or information systems, followed by several years in security engineering or IT infrastructure. Employers across the Seattle metro and Puget Sound corridor strongly favor candidates who hold CISSP or CISM certification, and cloud-focused roles increasingly expect CCSP or an equivalent AWS or Azure security specialty credential.
How much do security architects make in Washington?
Security architects in Washington earn a median of about $154,940 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,730 for the lowest 10% to over $211,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security architects in Washington?
Employers hiring security architects in Washington right now include EY, Apple, and Rocket, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's concentration of cloud platform companies, aerospace primes, and federal contractors means demand for security architects is spread across both commercial technology and regulated defense sectors.
Which Washington cities have the most security architect jobs?
Seattle, Redmond, and Bellevue account for the largest share of security architect openings in Washington. Seattle and Bellevue anchor the market because of their density of cloud, enterprise software, and financial technology employers, while Redmond's concentration of major campus operations drives sustained demand, and Tacoma and Olympia see openings tied to state government agencies and regional defense facilities.
Are there remote security architect jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. Security architect work is largely analytical and design-oriented, making it well suited to remote delivery. About 67% of security architect openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how widely distributed the role has become across cloud-native employers in the region. Strategy, policy development, and architecture review functions are the most consistently offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a security architect in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a security analyst, systems administrator, or network engineer role at a Washington employer. Large technology companies and defense contractors in the Puget Sound area regularly post associate security engineer and junior cloud security roles that serve as stepping stones. Completing a CISSP associate designation or an AWS security specialty certification strengthens a candidacy before the full experience threshold is met, and state government agencies in Olympia also post entry-level cybersecurity roles that build the architecture background employers expect.
Where can I find and apply to security architect jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to security architect jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and specialization, and apply directly to each one. No account creation is required to see the listings.
