Security Engineer Jobs in Seattle: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a security engineer job in Seattle?
Focus your search on South Lake Union and the Eastside, where cloud platforms, enterprise software firms, and defense contractors concentrate most of their security hiring. Candidates with hands-on cloud security experience, particularly in AWS or Azure environments, stand out in this market. Certifications such as CISSP or CISM help, but demonstrable project experience and a portfolio of real incidents handled carry significant weight with Seattle hiring managers.
Which companies hire security engineers in Seattle?
Employers hiring security engineers in Seattle right now include Amazon, Apple, and OpenAI, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Seattle's mix of global tech giants, aerospace firms, and fast-growing cloud startups means security engineers here work across a wide range of company sizes and threat models.
Are there remote security engineer jobs in Seattle?
Yes, though it depends on the specialty. Roles focused on threat analysis, vulnerability management, and security operations center work tend to allow remote arrangements, while positions requiring physical access to infrastructure or classified environments are almost always on-site. About 53% of security engineer openings tied to Seattle are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with cloud security and GRC roles accounting for the largest share of those flexible arrangements.
How can I get a security engineer job in Seattle with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Seattle is through a junior security analyst or IT support role at one of the city's many mid-size tech or healthcare companies, where security teams are small enough to bring up junior talent. Programs at University of Washington and Seattle University produce candidates that local employers recognize, and Seattle's defense and aerospace sector regularly hires entry-level candidates with security clearance potential. CompTIA Security+ and cloud fundamentals certifications help clear resume filters at Seattle-area employers.
Which industries hire the most security engineers in Seattle?
The sectors hiring the most security engineers in Seattle are Technology & Software, Retail, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Seattle's role as a major cloud computing hub combined with a significant defense and aerospace presence drives demand well above what you'd see in a comparably sized city.
