Senior Physical Design Engineer Jobs in New Hampshire: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior physical design engineer in New Hampshire?
Most senior physical design engineers in New Hampshire hold a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field. Physical design engineering does not require a state-issued license in New Hampshire. Employers in the Manchester and Nashua areas typically expect several years of hands-on VLSI implementation experience, proficiency with industry-standard EDA tools, and a portfolio of taped-out designs demonstrating ownership of full physical implementation flows.
How much do senior physical design engineers make in New Hampshire?
Senior physical design engineers in New Hampshire earn a median of about $129,140 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $75,740 for the lowest 10% to over $202,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior physical design engineers in New Hampshire?
New Hampshire senior physical design engineer roles are posted by BAE Systems USA, Amphenol, and Celestica and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The southern New Hampshire corridor, anchored by Manchester and Nashua, is home to defense electronics and analog semiconductor firms that sustain ongoing demand for senior physical design talent.
Which New Hampshire cities have the most senior physical design engineer jobs?
Nashua, Exeter, and Merrimack account for the largest share of senior physical design engineer openings in New Hampshire. Manchester and Nashua dominate because the region hosts established defense electronics primes and analog semiconductor companies whose chip development teams require on-site physical design expertise, while smaller cities in the Merrimack Valley benefit from proximity to those anchor employers and their supplier ecosystems.
Are there remote senior physical design engineer jobs in New Hampshire?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely software-focused engineering disciplines, since physical design work often requires access to licensed EDA tools on secure internal networks. About 25% of senior physical design engineer openings tied to New Hampshire are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the tool-access and IP-security constraints common in semiconductor environments. Roles focused on early-stage floorplanning, scripting, or methodology development tend to offer the most scheduling flexibility.
How can I get hired as a senior physical design engineer in New Hampshire with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior or associate physical design role at one of the analog or mixed-signal firms concentrated around Nashua and Manchester, such as those supporting defense or automotive IC programs. Candidates coming from adjacent roles in verification, design automation scripting, or FPGA implementation often transition successfully by demonstrating EDA tool familiarity. Completing a recognized VLSI design course sequence and building a project portfolio that shows place-and-route work, even at an academic node, strengthens a new applicant's case significantly.
Where can I find and apply to senior physical design engineer jobs in New Hampshire?
You can find and apply to senior physical design engineer jobs in New Hampshire on Migrate Mate, which lists current New Hampshire openings updated in real time. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and preferred location within the state, and apply directly to whichever positions fit your experience level and specialization.
