A Snapshot of Your Day
SGRE is looking for a self-driven and proactive Power System Engineer that would be responsible for developing, testing, and debugging grid simulation models on wind power turbines and plant controllers.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Development of electrical simulation wind turbine models in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
- Develop and validate RMS (PSSE) and EMT (PSCAD) model using the dll obtained from MATLAB/SIMULINK and perform benchmarking.
- Analysis of simulation results and identify needed performance/modelling improvements. Benchmarking and validation of wind turbine models against reference data (field/HIL test result).
- Modeling of Wind Farms; these models will be used to perform steady state, dynamic, transient and frequency domain simulations. Perform simulations to evaluate compliance to requirements related to: Short Circuit, PQ capability, Voltage limits, overloading, of equipment, other simulations.
- Write reports where the input data, results and conclusions of the above simulations will be clearly described.
- Support customer communication including meetings as grid subject matter expert.
What You Bring
- Master’s degree in Electrical Power Engineering
- 8-10 years’ experience in electrical models and control development in performing design and grid compliance.
- Have knowledge of current grid compliance regulations and experience working with grid authorities like ERCOT, NERC, FERC.
- Have experience performing several types of electrical studies like Harmonic Studies, Load Flow Analysis, Dynamic Stability, Frequency domain analysis, Transient studies.
- Have experience modeling and simulation of control systems (e.g. current control, voltage control) and power system components (e.g. transmission lines, transformers, generators) in time-domain and frequency-domain
- Desirable experience with wind turbines (DFIG and/or FC technologies), or other converter-based units (e.g. PV, HVDC, STATCOM, Energy Storage) or other generation units (e.g. hydro power plants).
- Desirable experience with mathematics; numerical analysis, signal processing: filtering, interpolation, FFT, control theory, optimization techniques.

Senior Level Senior Power Systems Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level senior power systems engineer job?
Employers at this level expect demonstrated ownership of high-voltage system design, protection scheme development, or grid interconnection studies, not just participation in them. Candidates who can point to projects they led from feasibility through commissioning, show experience mentoring junior engineers, and speak fluently to applicable standards like IEEE and NERC stand out consistently in hiring at this stage.
Which companies hire senior level senior power systems engineers?
Companies hiring senior level senior power systems engineers right now include Sargent & Lundy, GE Vernova, and Ghafari Associates, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Hiring at this level tends to come from utilities, independent power producers, large engineering and consulting firms, and defense contractors working on energy infrastructure and grid modernization programs.
Are there remote senior level senior power systems engineer jobs?
Yes, though fieldwork requirements mean fully remote roles are less common at this level than in some other engineering disciplines. About 80% of senior level senior power systems engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements typically tied to project review cycles, client site visits, or substation commissioning phases that require periodic travel.
What makes a senior power systems engineer role senior level?
Senior level roles are defined by technical ownership and independent judgment rather than supervised execution. Engineers at this stage are expected to set design standards, lead protection and relay coordination studies, make final technical calls on complex system configurations, and actively develop the skills of less experienced engineers on the team. The scope extends beyond individual deliverables to the quality and direction of the broader engineering effort.
Which industries hire the most senior level senior power systems engineers?
Senior level senior power systems engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Energy, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Those sectors drive demand because they operate or expand large-scale electrical infrastructure, whether transmission and distribution networks, generation facilities, or industrial power systems, where senior-level expertise in reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance is a requirement, not a preference.
