How do I get a senior researcher job in Cambridge?
Focus your search on Kendall Square and East Cambridge, where biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies, and research hospitals hire senior researchers most actively. Candidates with wet-lab or translational research experience, a PhD or equivalent publication record, and familiarity with grant-funded project structures tend to stand out. Networking through MIT or Harvard research programs also opens doors that job boards alone do not.
Which companies hire senior researchers in Cambridge?
Employers hiring senior researchers in Cambridge right now include Lila Sciences, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Iterative Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Cambridge's employer mix skews heavily toward biotech startups, established pharmaceutical companies, and university-affiliated research institutes, all of which maintain ongoing senior researcher pipelines.
Are there remote senior researcher jobs in Cambridge?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role type. Computational, data science, and policy research positions tend to be remote-friendly, while bench science and clinical research roles typically require on-site presence. About 63% of senior researcher openings tied to Cambridge are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Roles at university research centers and biotech firms generally require at least some in-person work in Kendall Square.
How can I get a senior researcher job in Cambridge with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Cambridge is through a postdoctoral fellowship or research associate role at a university-affiliated institute or a Kendall Square biotech. MIT, Harvard, and the Broad Institute regularly hire early-career researchers who build toward senior designations. Contract research positions at Cambridge CROs also provide a stepping stone, and a strong publication record or demonstrated independent project ownership can accelerate the transition.
