ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Infra Systems team within the Platform group, you'll work across the cloud and networking foundations that Coinbase engineers rely on to run reliably at scale. The team owns the front door for GCP paved roads, cloud networking, and AWS-centered infrastructure patterns, with a focus on standardization, self-service, and strong default guardrails. You'll work closely with the AWS, GCP, and Networking owners inside Core Infra Systems and partner with Compute, Infra Security, Routing, and broader infrastructure stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and opinionated infrastructure that keeps Coinbase fast and resilient.
What you'll do:
- Own cross-cutting infrastructure initiatives that span the AWS, GCP, and Networking pillars inside Core Infra Systems, driving alignment on standards, tooling, and operational patterns.
- Build and maintain self-service tooling and paved-road defaults that let product teams provision and operate cloud infrastructure safely without deep platform expertise.
- Partner with Compute, Infra Security, and Routing teams to embed guardrails into infrastructure provisioning, ensuring every default meets Coinbase's bar for security, compliance, and reliability.
- Drive infrastructure standardization across Coinbase's multi-cloud environment, reducing fragmentation and improving consistency in how teams consume cloud networking, compute, and shared platform primitives.
- Lead technical investigations and operational improvements across infrastructure boundaries, working with broader stakeholders to resolve systemic issues and scale foundational systems.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years building and operating production cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or GCP (networking, compute, or platform engineering).
- Hands-on experience with cloud networking primitives such as VPCs, transit gateways, DNS, load balancers, and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi).
- Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Go, Python) used to build platform tooling and automation at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to drive cross-team technical initiatives, partnering across multiple infrastructure domains to deliver cohesive, production-ready outcomes.
- Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
COMPENSATION
- Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $186,065 USD - $218,900 USD
Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

Senior Software Developer Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior software developer job in Austin?
Focus your search on Austin's strongest hiring sectors: enterprise SaaS, cloud platforms, fintech, and semiconductor software. The Domain and Downtown corridors house the densest concentration of tech employers, while East Austin and the North Austin Research Blvd corridor add more mid-size and startup options. Candidates with distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, or payments experience tend to stand out locally. A portfolio of shipped products at scale moves applications forward faster than credentials alone.
Which companies hire senior software developers in Austin?
Companies currently hiring senior software developers in Austin include Apple, NVIDIA, and Amazon Web Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Austin's employer mix runs from global tech campuses and Fortune 500 satellite offices to well-funded Series B and C startups, giving candidates a wide range of team sizes and tech stacks to target.
Are there remote senior software developer jobs in Austin?
Yes, senior software developer work is well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements given its desk-based, collaborative nature. About 23% of senior software developer openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly Austin employers have adopted flexible models. Backend, platform, and infrastructure roles in Austin tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while roles tied to embedded systems or hardware integration typically require on-site presence.
How can I get a senior software developer job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic path in Austin starts with a junior or mid-level role at one of the city's many mid-size SaaS or fintech companies, which hire more aggressively at early career levels than large enterprise offices do. Austin's active bootcamp alumni network and university pipelines from UT Austin and Texas A&M feed directly into local engineering teams. Contributing to open-source projects, building visible GitHub work, and attending Austin tech meetups meaningfully shortens the path to a first offer.
Which industries hire the most senior software developers in Austin?
Most senior software developer openings in Austin sit in Electronics & Hardware, Technology & Software, and Banking & Financial Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Austin's growth as a technology and financial services hub, anchored by major corporate relocations and a deep local startup ecosystem, keeps demand in those sectors consistently ahead of most other U.S. markets.
