Infrastructure Software Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a infrastructure software engineer in Texas?
Infrastructure software engineering in Texas has no state-issued license or registration requirement, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most Texas employers look for a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though strong portfolio projects and relevant certifications from cloud providers can substitute for a traditional degree at many companies. Building hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, containerization, and automation tooling positions candidates well for Texas's tech-dense market.
How much do infrastructure software engineers make in Texas?
Infrastructure software engineers in Texas earn a median of about $132,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,600 for the lowest 10% to over $183,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire infrastructure software engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring infrastructure software engineers in Texas right now include Speechify, Amazon Web Services, and HEB, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, financial services firms, defense contractors, and large enterprise technology headquarters creates consistent year-round demand across a wider range of industries than most states.
Which Texas cities have the most infrastructure software engineer jobs?
Austin, Plano, and Dallas have the most infrastructure software engineer openings in Texas. Austin's dense cluster of tech companies and enterprise software firms drives much of that city's volume, while Dallas benefits from major financial services and telecom headquarters, and Houston's energy sector and growing technology investment generate steady demand for cloud and platform engineering roles.
Are there remote infrastructure software engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. Infrastructure software engineering is largely a desk-based, code-driven discipline, which makes it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 80% of infrastructure software engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how common distributed team structures have become in this specialty. Roles focused on cloud architecture, infrastructure-as-code, and platform tooling are the most likely to be fully remote.
How can I get hired as a infrastructure software engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior DevOps engineer, site reliability engineer, or systems administrator role, all of which are common stepping stones at large Texas employers in Austin's tech sector and Dallas's enterprise technology corridors. Dell Technologies, NTT Data, and major financial institutions in Dallas run associate and early-career engineering programs that accept candidates without prior production experience. Building a portfolio of Terraform configurations, containerized applications, or CI/CD pipeline projects on GitHub and earning an entry-level cloud certification from AWS or Azure gives candidates a concrete edge over résumé-only applicants.
Where can I find and apply to infrastructure software engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to infrastructure software engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers across Austin, Dallas, Houston, and beyond. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and preferred location or work arrangement, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
