Senior Staff Data Engineer Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior staff data engineer in Kansas?
Senior staff data engineer roles in Kansas do not require a state-issued license, so the path runs through education and progressive technical experience. Most Kansas employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, often paired with a master's for principal-track roles. Candidates build toward the title by moving through mid-level and staff engineer positions, typically at Kansas-based technology, manufacturing, or financial services organizations, accumulating leadership over complex data platform decisions along the way.
How much do senior staff data engineers make in Kansas?
Senior staff data engineers in Kansas earn a median of about $113,420 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $71,690 for the lowest 10% to over $165,740 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior staff data engineers in Kansas?
Kansas senior staff data engineer roles are posted by CVS Health, Walmart, and Black & Veatch and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's mix of aerospace, health IT, and financial technology firms means demand comes from both large corporate engineering organizations and mid-size product companies with growing data platform needs.
Which Kansas cities have the most senior staff data engineer jobs?
Overland Park, Wichita, and Kansas City hold the most senior staff data engineer openings in Kansas. Overland Park and the broader Kansas City metro drive the bulk of listings through its dense cluster of technology firms, corporate headquarters, and health IT companies, while Wichita contributes openings tied to aerospace manufacturers and aviation analytics operations that rely on sophisticated data infrastructure.
Are there remote senior staff data engineer jobs in Kansas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 40% of senior staff data engineer openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's fundamentally desk-based, platform-focused nature. Architecture review, pipeline development, and data governance work transfers cleanly to remote settings, making senior staff data engineers among the more consistently remote-eligible technical roles across Kansas employers.
How can I get hired as a senior staff data engineer in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate data engineer role at a Kansas employer with a defined engineering ladder, then growing toward staff seniority through internal progression. Large Kansas technology and healthcare organizations such as Cerner and Garmin run new-graduate hiring programs where candidates come in as data or software engineers and advance with structured mentorship. Building a portfolio of open-source pipeline or orchestration projects and earning a cloud data certification strengthens early applications considerably before experience accumulates.
