Senior Staff Data Engineer Jobs in Vermont: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior staff data engineer in Vermont?
Senior staff data engineer roles in Vermont do not require a state-issued license or registration. Employers typically look for a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related field combined with deep hands-on experience in distributed systems. Vermont's largest hiring sectors are healthcare technology and state government IT modernization, so familiarity with regulated data environments and cloud migration projects gives candidates a concrete edge in this market.
How much do senior staff data engineers make in Vermont?
Senior staff data engineers in Vermont earn a median of about $125,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,480 for the lowest 10% to over $209,420 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior staff data engineers in Vermont?
Vermont senior staff data engineer roles are posted by State of Vermont, CVS Health, and GlobalFoundries and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Vermont's anchored employer base in healthcare systems, semiconductor manufacturing, and state government agencies drives steady recurring demand for senior-level data engineering talent.
Which Vermont cities have the most senior staff data engineer jobs?
Montpelier, Essex Junction, and Vermont have the most senior staff data engineer openings in Vermont right now. Burlington dominates because it is home to UVM Health Network, a dense cluster of financial technology firms, and the state's largest university research operations, while Montpelier and South Burlington draw openings from state government IT divisions and established technology employers anchored along the Route 2 and Interstate 89 corridors.
Are there remote senior staff data engineer jobs in Vermont?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 45% of senior staff data engineer openings tied to Vermont are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how naturally the role lends itself to distributed work. Pipeline architecture, data modeling, and platform engineering tasks are the portions of the role most commonly performed fully remotely, while on-site expectations tend to arise around stakeholder alignment and infrastructure deployment phases.
How can I get hired as a senior staff data engineer in Vermont with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior data engineering or data analyst role at a Vermont healthcare system or state agency IT division, where structured mentorship and project pipelines exist for early-career engineers. UVM Health Network and Vermont state government technology offices periodically bring on associate-level data professionals who build toward senior tracks. Building a portfolio of cloud pipeline projects and earning a vendor certification in AWS or GCP adds measurable credibility when formal experience is limited.
