Senior Test Automation Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior test automation engineer in Texas?
Senior test automation engineer roles in Texas require no state-issued license or registration. The standard path is a bachelor's degree in computer science or software engineering, followed by several years building automation frameworks across progressively larger systems. Texas employers, particularly in Austin's tech corridor and the Dallas-Fort Worth defense and fintech clusters, consistently promote candidates who hold certifications like ISTQB Advanced or AWS Developer alongside a strong portfolio of automation projects.
How much do senior test automation engineers make in Texas?
Senior test automation engineers in Texas earn a median of about $101,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,010 for the lowest 10% to over $153,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior test automation engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring senior test automation engineers in Texas right now include TransCore, JPMorganChase, and Jabil, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major defense contractors, and fast-scaling fintech firms means large, established engineering organizations are consistently among the most active hirers in the state.
Which Texas cities have the most senior test automation engineer jobs?
Austin, Plano, and Round Rock have the most senior test automation engineer openings in Texas. Austin drives volume through its dense concentration of enterprise tech companies and startups, Dallas-Fort Worth draws demand from financial services, telecom, and defense primes headquartered in the Metroplex, and Houston adds openings through its energy technology and healthcare IT sectors, with major systems like MD Anderson and Chevron running large software quality teams.
Are there remote senior test automation engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of senior test automation engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how thoroughly this role lives inside code repositories and CI/CD dashboards rather than physical labs. The work most consistently offered fully remote includes framework development, test strategy, and code review, while on-site or hybrid arrangements are more common when the role involves embedded systems or classified defense projects.
How can I get hired as a senior test automation engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior QA or software developer in test role at a mid-size Texas tech or fintech company, then building internal automation tooling to move toward a senior title. Dell Technologies, NXP Semiconductors, and large Dallas-Fort Worth financial institutions run associate software engineer and QA rotational programs that welcome candidates without senior experience. Completing an ISTQB Foundation certification and publishing a personal automation portfolio on a version control platform gives Texas hiring managers something concrete to evaluate when a resume is otherwise light.
Where can I find and apply to senior test automation engineer jobs in Texas?
