Senior User Researcher Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior user researcher in New York?
Senior user researcher roles in New York do not require a state-issued license. The typical path is a bachelor's or master's degree in human-computer interaction, psychology, information science, or a related field, followed by several years of progressively responsible research work. New York employers place particular weight on a portfolio that demonstrates research impact on real products, experience with both qualitative and quantitative methods, and the ability to communicate findings to product and business stakeholders.
Which companies hire senior user researchers in New York?
Employers hiring senior user researchers in New York right now include Exponent, Notion, and Peloton, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New York's concentration of financial services firms, major media companies, and enterprise technology organizations makes it one of the most consistent markets in the country for senior-level research roles.
Which New York cities have the most senior user researcher jobs?
New York and Queens account for the most senior user researcher openings in New York. New York City dominates the distribution because it is home to the headquarters and flagship offices of major banks, media companies, and technology firms that maintain large product design organizations, while secondary cities reflect regional employers such as healthcare systems, universities, and state government agencies.
Are there remote senior user researcher jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 71% of senior user researcher openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the analytical and collaborative nature of the work. Fully remote arrangements are most common for roles focused on survey research, strategic planning, and synthesis, while positions requiring in-person moderated sessions or lab-based testing tend to require at least a hybrid schedule.
How can I get hired as a senior user researcher in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to apply for junior or associate user researcher roles at mid-size product companies or large institutions in New York, which often offer structured mentorship. New York's major healthcare systems, including NYC Health and Hospitals, and financial firms such as Bloomberg run internship and associate programs that accept candidates transitioning from adjacent fields like psychology, social work, data analysis, or graphic design. Building a portfolio of self-initiated or volunteer research projects, and completing a recognized UX research certificate, meaningfully strengthens an application.
Where can I find and apply to senior user researcher jobs in New York?
