Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, personable Service Technician who enjoys solving technical problems, working directly with clients, and taking ownership of results.
Your first priority is service: troubleshooting and resolving issues for new and existing clients, including warranty support and systems installed by other companies.
Your second priority is recommending appropriate improvements and generating sales through honest, helpful advice. When you develop and sell a project within your capabilities, you will lead its execution, coordinating with our installation team to deliver what you promised.
When service needs and your own project responsibilities allow, you will support other installations.
You’ll have clear pricing and approval guidelines, authority to handle routine service decisions within those guidelines, and support from our Field Operations Manager, System Designers, and installation team. We want you to use your judgment, contribute ideas, and build client relationships you’re proud of.
This position reports to the Field Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities: Service and Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve issues with Wi-Fi, networks, security cameras, AV equipment, and supported automation systems.
- Complete service calls, warranty visits, and remote troubleshooting as appropriate.
- Evaluate existing systems, including equipment clients inherited with a home or building.
- Identify underlying problems, explain findings clearly, and recommend practical solutions.
- Verify system performance and help clients understand how to operate their equipment.
- Document work performed, equipment information, and any remaining concerns.
- Follow through on unresolved issues and keep clients and teammates informed.
Client Recommendations and Sales
- Ask thoughtful questions to understand client needs and frustrations.
- Recommend appropriate repairs, replacements, upgrades, and system additions.
- Prepare and present proposals within company pricing guidelines and your technical capabilities.
- Follow up on proposals and coordinate approved work.
- Transfer larger or complex design opportunities to a System Designer.
- Build long-term relationships through honest advice and dependable service.
Project Leadership and Installation
- Serve as lead technician on projects you independently develop and sell.
- Communicate the approved scope and client expectations to supporting installers.
- Coordinate scheduling, staffing, and materials with the Field Operations Manager.
- Direct onsite work and ensure installation quality, testing, and client handoff meet company standards.
- Take responsibility for delivering the experience and functionality promised to the client.
- Support other installation projects when available, including wiring, trim-out, equipment mounting, rack assembly, configuration, and programming within your capabilities.
Qualifications
- Previous hands-on experience in low-voltage service and installation; three or more years preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with networking, Wi-Fi, IP cameras, and AV systems.
- Ability to independently handle service calls and projects within your demonstrated expertise.
- Working knowledge of structured cabling, testing tools, and installation practices.
- Ability to read scopes of work, construction drawings, and technical diagrams.
- Professional, approachable communication style and confidence working in client homes and businesses.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly and discuss recommendations and pricing professionally.
- Initiative, sound judgment, attention to detail, and reliable follow-through.
- Willingness to lead projects, learn new systems, and support teammates.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and eligibility to drive company vehicles.
- Willingness to complete a pre-employment background check and drug screening, conducted in accordance with applicable law.
- Ability to work on ladders and lifts and handle equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
- Availability for occasional Saturday service coverage.
Experience with UniFi, Verkada, Control4, Savant, Lutron, or Josh.ai is a plus. Expertise in every platform is not required; strong technical fundamentals, integrity, and a commitment to learning are essential.
