Now Hiring: School Social Worker
The Children's Guild | Baltimore, Maryland
Are you a social worker who believes every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and ready to learn?
At The Children's Guild, we know that a child's ability to succeed in school is deeply connected to their social, emotional, and family well-being. We are looking for a compassionate, skilled School Social Worker to join our Baltimore team and serve as a vital bridge between students, families, schools, and the community.
Who We Are
The Children's Guild is a nonprofit organization and affiliate of TranZed Alliance — one of the most experienced child-serving organizations in the Greater Baltimore/Washington region. Our Baltimore special education school serves students with emotional disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, and other diverse learning needs in a trauma-informed, therapeutic environment.
Our interdisciplinary team of special educators, therapists, clinicians, psychologists, and support staff work together every day to ensure every student thrives — academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally.
The Opportunity
As a School Social Worker, you will be an essential member of our multidisciplinary team — connecting students and families to the support they need inside and outside the school. You will:
- Provide individual and group counseling to students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and contribute to IEP and 504 planning
- Connect families to community resources, wraparound services, and crisis support
- Support attendance intervention efforts and chronic absenteeism reduction
- Collaborate with teachers, clinicians, administrators, and families to support student well-being
- Serve as a student advocate — ensuring every child's voice is heard and their needs are met
- Facilitate family meetings, home visits, and community outreach as needed
- Support crisis assessment, safety planning, and de-escalation in collaboration with the school team
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with COMAR, HIPAA, and agency standards
- Drive cultural transformation efforts by championing a trauma-informed, family-centered school culture
What We're Looking For
✔ Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program (required)
✔ Active licensure in Maryland (LCSW-C, LCSW, LMSW, or working toward full licensure)
✔ 2–5 years of experience in a school-based, child welfare, or community-based setting
✔ Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, IDEA, and 504 regulations
✔ Strong assessment, counseling, and case management skills
✔ Familiarity with COMAR and Maryland child welfare regulations
✔ Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for home and community visits
✔ Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds
✔ Strong written and verbal communication skills
✔ Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
Why The Children's Guild?
- Mission-driven culture — join a team that shows up every day for students and families who need it most
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
- Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision
- Clinical supervision toward full licensure (LCSW-C, LCSW)
- Mileage reimbursement for home and community visits
- Ongoing professional development in trauma-informed care, PBIS, and child welfare best practices
- Collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment
- Meaningful work — your advocacy and support change the trajectory of children's lives every day

Social Services Specialist Jobs in Baltimore: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a social services specialist job in Baltimore?
Focus on Baltimore's largest hiring sectors: large hospital systems anchored in East Baltimore, city and county human services agencies, and the dense nonprofit corridor serving vulnerable communities in West Baltimore and Park Heights. Case management experience, familiarity with Maryland's public benefits programs, and fluency in trauma-informed practices give candidates a real edge in this market. Volunteering with Baltimore community organizations before applying strengthens local credibility.
Which companies hire social services specialists in Baltimore?
Companies currently hiring social services specialists in Baltimore include University of Maryland Medical System, Johns Hopkins Health System, and Johns Hopkins Medical Management Corporation, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Baltimore's hiring landscape is shaped heavily by its major academic medical centers, city government agencies, and a robust network of community-based nonprofits serving diverse neighborhoods.
Are there remote social services specialist jobs in Baltimore?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for direct-service and field-based roles, which make up a large share of Baltimore openings. About 53% of social services specialist openings tied to Baltimore are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated mostly in care coordination, benefits navigation, and administrative case management functions.
How can I get a social services specialist job in Baltimore with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Baltimore is through community health worker or case aide roles at city-funded social service agencies or federally qualified health centers, particularly those operating in East Baltimore and South Baltimore. AmeriCorps placements with Baltimore nonprofits also convert regularly into full-time positions. A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field, combined with any Baltimore-area field placement, significantly strengthens your candidacy.
Which industries hire the most social services specialists in Baltimore?
Baltimore social services specialist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Government & Public Sector, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Baltimore's position as a regional healthcare hub and the headquarters location for several major state and city human services agencies drives unusually strong, consistent demand across these sectors.
