Social Services Specialist Jobs in Charleston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a social services specialist job in Charleston?
Charleston's strongest hiring comes from Charleston County social services agencies, MUSC Health's behavioral health and care coordination teams, and the city's growing network of nonprofit providers in North Charleston and the West Ashley corridor. Candidates with case management experience in child welfare, behavioral health, or housing assistance stand out. Fluency in Spanish is a meaningful edge given the region's expanding Latino communities along the Lowcountry coast.
Which companies hire social services specialists in Charleston?
Companies currently hiring social services specialists in Charleston include National HealthCare Corporation, Charleston County School District, and Medical University of South Carolina, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Charleston's hiring is spread across county government offices, large regional health systems like MUSC, and established nonprofits serving the Lowcountry's veteran, youth, and low-income populations.
Are there remote social services specialist jobs in Charleston?
Yes, though the role is largely field- and client-facing, so fully remote positions are less common than in purely desk-based fields. About 33% of social services specialist openings tied to Charleston are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with remote work most available in care coordination, case documentation, and program support roles rather than direct client services.
How can I get a social services specialist job in Charleston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charleston is through case aide or community support worker roles at Charleston County's Department of Social Services or with Lowcountry nonprofits such as Crisis Ministries and Metanoia. These positions provide supervised caseload exposure that leads directly to specialist roles. Volunteering with Lowcountry Food Bank or local family resource centers also builds the documentation and client-contact experience Charleston employers look for.
Which industries hire the most social services specialists in Charleston?
Charleston social services specialist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. This reflects Charleston's combination of a major academic medical center, a sizable military and veteran population at Joint Base Charleston, and longstanding county human services infrastructure serving the broader Lowcountry region.
