Software Architect Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software architect in Texas?
Software architecture is not state-licensed in Texas, so there is no board exam or registration required to work in the role. The typical path starts with a computer science or software engineering degree, followed by years of hands-on development work before moving into architecture. Texas employers, particularly in Austin's tech corridor and Dallas's enterprise IT sector, generally expect candidates to demonstrate system design depth through a portfolio, whiteboard exercises, or architecture samples during the hiring process.
How much do software architects make in Texas?
Software architects in Texas earn a median of about $132,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,600 for the lowest 10% to over $183,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software architects in Texas?
Employers hiring software architects in Texas right now include TeamViewer, AMD, and Apple, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, large defense contractors, and a fast-growing tech startup ecosystem means hiring stays active across both legacy enterprise environments and modern cloud-first organizations throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most software architect jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Plano consistently post the most software architect openings in Texas. Austin leads on the strength of its technology company density, Dallas draws from large enterprise IT operations and financial services headquarters concentrated in the Metroplex, and Houston's openings are driven primarily by energy sector digital transformation and the healthcare technology organizations anchored there.
Are there remote software architect jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 56% of software architect openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how thoroughly design, documentation, and stakeholder work can be done asynchronously. The parts of the role most commonly offered remotely are greenfield system design and architecture review work, while roles tied to regulated industries such as defense or healthcare often require at least partial on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a software architect in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an architecture-adjacent role first, specifically as a senior software engineer or technical lead, and building a visible record of system design contributions. Texas employers like Dell Technologies, USAA, and large health systems such as HCA Healthcare run associate architect and engineering leadership development programs that recruit internally from these roles. Earning a cloud certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate signals design readiness to Texas hiring teams and opens conversations that a developer title alone often does not.
Where can I find and apply to software architect jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to software architect jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly through the listing.
