Software Development Manager Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a software development manager job in Austin?
Target Austin's high-density hiring pockets: the Domain and downtown for enterprise SaaS and cloud companies, East Austin for growth-stage startups, and the medical district for healthtech. Candidates who stand out here combine strong engineering delivery experience with clear cross-functional collaboration skills. Familiarity with Austin's scale-up culture and experience managing distributed or hybrid teams also gives applicants a measurable edge over purely technical profiles.
Which companies hire software development managers in Austin?
Employers hiring software development managers in Austin right now include Amazon Web Services, Amazon, and CVS Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Austin's mix of established tech campuses, regional headquarters, and founder-led startups means openings exist across employer sizes and funding stages throughout the city.
Are there remote software development manager jobs in Austin?
Yes, though availability depends on the role: software development managers who focus on planning, roadmapping, and stakeholder coordination tend to work remotely more often than those overseeing on-site engineering teams or hardware-adjacent work. About 50% of software development manager openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Product-focused and platform engineering teams at Austin's larger tech employers are where fully remote arrangements appear most frequently.
How can I get a software development manager job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic path in Austin is moving into a team lead or engineering lead role at a mid-size startup, where the line between senior engineer and first-time manager is thinnest. Austin's active startup ecosystem, particularly in the Domain and East Austin, regularly promotes strong individual contributors into management. Gaining experience owning a sprint cycle, running standups, or mentoring junior engineers in your current role makes that transition concrete and visible to local hiring teams.
Which industries hire the most software development managers in Austin?
Most software development manager openings in Austin sit in Retail, Technology & Software, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Austin's growth as a regional technology and financial services hub has made it a magnet for companies scaling engineering organizations, which drives steady demand for managers who can build and retain high-performing teams.
