Software Quality Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software quality engineer in Texas?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information systems is the standard starting point for software quality engineer roles in Texas. No state-issued license is required, but employers across Austin's tech corridor, Dallas's enterprise software firms, and Houston's aerospace sector consistently look for hands-on testing experience and recognized credentials such as ISTQB certification. Building a portfolio of test automation work strengthens an application considerably.
How much do software quality engineers make in Texas?
Software quality engineers in Texas earn a median of about $101,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,010 for the lowest 10% to over $153,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software quality engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring software quality engineers in Texas right now include Apple, Terracon Consultants, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of aerospace contractors, semiconductor manufacturers, and large enterprise technology companies means demand for QA talent stays active throughout the year across multiple industry sectors.
Which Texas cities have the most software quality engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston account for the most software quality engineer openings in Texas. Austin's dense cluster of software companies and semiconductor firms drives its volume, Dallas pulls from a broad base of financial technology and enterprise software employers, and Houston's aerospace and energy technology sector generates consistent QA demand, particularly for embedded systems and safety-critical software validation.
Are there remote software quality engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 11% of software quality engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work environments. Test automation, code review participation, and bug triage are especially well-suited to remote delivery, though roles involving embedded systems or hardware-in-the-loop testing typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a software quality engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a QA analyst or junior tester role, which Texas employers in Austin and Dallas regularly fill with candidates who have a relevant degree but limited professional experience. Dell Technologies, Texas Instruments, and major healthcare IT firms in the Houston medical center run new-graduate hiring programs that include QA tracks. Moving laterally from a manual tester, technical support, or business analyst position is also a recognized route, and earning an ISTQB Foundation certificate before applying gives candidates a concrete credential that offsets a thin work history.
Where can I find and apply to software quality engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to software quality engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit.
