Software Quality Engineer Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software quality engineer in Colorado?
Colorado does not require a state-issued license to work as a software quality engineer. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates who supplement formal education with certifications such as ISTQB or CSTE and demonstrate hands-on automation skills through portfolio projects or open-source contributions are consistently competitive with Colorado employers, particularly in the aerospace and enterprise software sectors centered in the Denver metro.
How much do software quality engineers make in Colorado?
Software quality engineers in Colorado earn a median of about $123,690 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,780 for the lowest 10% to over $172,930 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software quality engineers in Colorado?
Colorado software quality engineer roles are posted by EchoStar, United Launch Alliance (ULA), and Boeing and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Colorado's concentration of aerospace primes, defense contractors, and established enterprise software firms means QA openings appear consistently across both large headquarters and regional engineering offices.
Which Colorado cities have the most software quality engineer jobs?
Englewood, Centennial, and Colorado Springs have the most software quality engineer openings in Colorado. Denver anchors the market through its density of financial technology firms and corporate software divisions, Boulder draws openings from its established startup and research ecosystem, and Colorado Springs contributes a significant share through defense and government IT contractors concentrated around the military installations there.
How can I get hired as a software quality engineer in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior QA analyst or associate software tester role, which many Colorado employers treat as the on-ramp to a full quality engineering career. Large Colorado-based defense and aerospace contractors often run structured new-grad or rotational engineering programs where QA is one available track. Building a demonstrable automation portfolio using open-source projects, contributing to testing frameworks on GitHub, and earning an ISTQB Foundation certification all give early-career candidates a concrete edge when applying to Colorado software and technology firms.
