As domain specialists, engineering authorities are encouraged to take ownership of key parts of Care.com’s infrastructure and guide related standards discussions and initiatives. They work closely with architects on the Engineering team to design and then implement fundamental aspects of the platform. Within the DevOps team, Principal level engineers provide mentorship and guidance to more junior members of the team and help ensure that team priorities and goals are being met.
What You'll Be Working On
- Lead high-impact, high-complexity projects, collaborating across Engineering, Security, and DevOps teams to drive architectural and operational improvements for our cloud infrastructure.
- Own the improvement and modernization of our CI/CD infrastructure, while vetting and implementing new software and processes to optimize SDLC workflows.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code and system configurations on AWS to support Care.com’s services.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to provide escalation support around deployment tooling and workflows.
- Mentor junior engineers and facilitate training sessions on the operational and architectural aspects of the Care.com platform.
- Author and maintain high-quality documentation for our infrastructure and architectural standards.
Qualifications
- 8+ years working with infrastructure as code and/or configuration management tools, receiving and providing code reviews (we use Ansible, Terraform, CDK).
- Experience with CI/CD toolchains and automation (we use Jenkins, Harness, GitHub, JFrog/Artifactory/X-Ray, and SonarQube) and experience developing and extending Groovy-based Jenkins pipelines a plus.
- Strong understanding of the AWS cloud platform including AWS cloud-native design patterns.
- Strong written communication skills and comfort with chat tools (e.g. Slack) as a primary means of communication.
- Familiarity with SaaS observability platforms (we use Signalfx, Splunk).
- Solid Python and Bash programming skills.
- Ability to work independently on projects and deliver them on time.

Principal Devops Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a principal devops engineer in Texas?
Reaching the principal level in Texas typically requires working through progressively senior DevOps or infrastructure engineering roles, building deep expertise in cloud platforms, automation, and systems architecture. Texas does not issue a state license for this role, so employers evaluate candidates on a combination of years of hands-on experience, demonstrated technical leadership, and industry certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional or Certified Kubernetes Administrator. Many principals in Texas built their path through the state's large technology, defense, or energy sectors.
How much do principal devops engineers make in Texas?
Principal devops engineers in Texas earn a median of about $132,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,600 for the lowest 10% to over $183,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire principal devops engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring principal devops engineers in Texas right now include Bain & Company, CVS Health, and Oracle, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, defense contractors, and major cloud-adopting energy firms means demand at the principal level stays consistent across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most principal devops engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston account for the most principal devops engineer openings in Texas. Austin's dense technology sector and startup-to-enterprise pipeline drive the highest volume, while Dallas and Houston reflect demand from large financial services firms, defense contractors, and energy companies that maintain substantial engineering footprints in those metros.
Are there remote principal devops engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. Principal devops engineering is largely infrastructure and code-driven work that translates well to remote environments. About 46% of principal devops engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly the role has shifted toward distributed teams. Platform architecture, cloud cost governance, and pipeline design are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a principal devops engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is starting in a DevOps engineer, site reliability engineer, or systems administrator role and building toward the principal level over time. Large Texas employers in technology and defense, including those anchored in Austin and the Dallas metroplex, regularly hire associate and mid-level DevOps engineers who move into senior and principal tracks internally. Earning cloud certifications such as AWS or Azure associate credentials, contributing to open-source infrastructure projects, and building a portfolio of automation work gives candidates without extensive experience a concrete edge when applying to those foundational roles.
Where can I find and apply to principal devops engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to principal devops engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
