Most software support specialist roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field, though some employers accept an associate degree combined with relevant certifications. No state-issued license is required for this role. Earning vendor-backed credentials such as CompTIA A+, ITIL Foundation, or platform-specific certifications like Salesforce Administrator strengthens candidacy considerably in New York's competitive tech market.
How much do software support specialists make in New York?
Software support specialists in New York earn a median of about $72,560 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $46,620 for the lowest 10% to over $109,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software support specialists in New York?
Employers hiring software support specialists in New York right now include City of New York, Indium Corporation, and New York Life, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of financial services firms, major hospital systems, and global enterprise software companies makes it one of the most active states for sustained hiring in this role.
Which New York cities have the most software support specialist jobs?
The cities with the most software support specialist openings in New York are Manhattan, New York, and Rochester. New York City dominates the distribution due to its concentration of global banks, insurance firms, and technology companies, while Albany draws demand from state government IT contracts and healthcare networks, and Buffalo reflects growing back-office and regional operations for several large enterprises.

Yes, and more than most fields. Software support is largely desk-based and application-driven, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 20% of software support specialist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the broader trend in enterprise IT. Roles focused on SaaS platforms, cloud-based ERP systems, and internal helpdesk tools tend to offer the most flexibility.
How can I get hired as a software support specialist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a helpdesk or IT support associate role, which many large New York employers use as a direct pipeline into software support. Major hospital systems such as NewYork-Presbyterian and NYC Health and Hospitals, along with financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase, regularly bring on associates through rotational IT programs and graduate-entry tracks. Building hands-on experience through an ITIL Foundation certification or a Salesforce Administrator credential significantly strengthens an application with no prior professional history.
