Business Systems Engineer
Position Summary
Vistabeam is seeking a Business Systems Engineer to help support, integrate, and improve the internal technology systems that power our broadband operations.
This role sits at the intersection of business systems administration, system integration, data management, workflow automation, and internal platform support. The ideal candidate has a technical background, strong troubleshooting ability, some system administration experience, and the curiosity to learn complex operational systems in an ISP environment.
This is not a traditional desktop support role. While the position will provide technical support to internal teams, the focus is on supporting and improving business-critical platforms, integrations, workflows, data flows, reporting, and operational systems.
Working closely with the Information Systems Manager, this person will help ensure Vistabeam’s systems remain reliable, secure, well-documented, scalable, and aligned with how our teams actually work.
What You’ll Work On
Vistabeam uses a connected stack of platforms that support sales, customer management, network mapping, provisioning, reporting, and operations. This role will help support and improve systems such as:
- Gaiia
- VETRO Fiber Maps
- SalesRabbit
- GoHighLevel
- Snowflake
- Internal reporting and dashboard tools
- Automation and integration platforms
- Other SaaS, operational, and business systems as needed
You do not need to know every one of these systems on day one. You do need to be technically curious, comfortable learning new platforms, and able to understand how systems, users, workflows, and data connect.
Primary ResponsibilitiesBusiness Systems Administration & Support
- Support the administration, configuration, and day-to-day operation of internal business systems and SaaS platforms.
- Troubleshoot system issues affecting Sales, Customer Service, Billing, Operations, Field, Network, and leadership teams.
- Assist with user setup, permissions, access logic, configuration changes, and platform maintenance.
- Work with internal teams to understand workflow problems and translate them into practical system improvements.
- Support system rollouts, platform updates, new market onboarding, and process standardization.
- Serve as a technical resource for internal users when platform behavior, data issues, or workflows need deeper investigation.
Systems Integration & Automation
- Help maintain and improve integrations between Vistabeam’s business and operational platforms.
- Troubleshoot data sync issues, broken workflows, API errors, webhook failures, and system-to-system inconsistencies.
- Assist with building automation to reduce manual work across sales, provisioning, reporting, and operations.
- Document integration logic, data mappings, dependencies, and failure points.
- Work with vendors and internal stakeholders to support new integrations, upgrades, and process changes.
Data, Reporting & Workflow Improvement
- Support reporting, dashboard, and data visibility initiatives across the organization.
- Assist with data pipelines, reporting datasets, and transformations that feed operational and executive reporting.
- Help improve data quality, consistency, and reliability across systems.
- Identify recurring manual processes and recommend ways to automate or streamline them.
- Support data cleanup and migration efforts during system transitions, market onboarding, or acquisition integration.
Infrastructure, Security & Reliability Support
- Assist with internal systems reliability, monitoring, alerting, backups, and continuity planning where applicable.
- Support security initiatives, access controls, documentation, and compliance-related processes, including NIST-aligned efforts.
- Help ensure systems are configured and maintained with security, reliability, and operational continuity in mind.
- Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and internal technical teams when system issues require escalation.
Documentation & Cross-Team Collaboration
- Create and maintain clear documentation for systems, workflows, integrations, configurations, and support procedures.
- Work closely with departments across Vistabeam to understand operational challenges and improve system usability.
- Support training, adoption, and guidance for internal teams using business systems.
- Help ensure key system knowledge is documented and not trapped in one person’s brain like a cursed treasure chest.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting business systems, SaaS platforms, system administration, IT operations, or application support.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to investigate problems across users, systems, data, permissions, and workflows.
- Familiarity with APIs, webhooks, databases, reporting tools, data pipelines, or workflow automation.
- Comfort working with technical systems that may not have perfect documentation.
- Ability to learn new platforms quickly and understand how different systems interact.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
- Strong documentation habits and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently while collaborating across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an ISP, WISP, fiber, telecom, utility, or similar operational environment.
- Familiarity with OSS/BSS platforms, CRM systems, GIS/mapping tools, billing systems, provisioning workflows, or field operations systems.
- Experience with Snowflake, SQL, GraphQL, REST APIs, JSON, or similar data/integration technologies.
- Experience with automation tools, scripting, or low-code/no-code workflow platforms.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, networking fundamentals, identity/access management, or security frameworks.
- Experience using AI-assisted development or documentation tools to accelerate troubleshooting, scripting, reporting, or analysis.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Business Systems Engineer will help Vistabeam:
- Keep critical business systems stable, reliable, and usable.
- Improve integration across platforms such as Gaiia, VETRO, SalesRabbit, Pipedrive, and Snowflake.
- Reduce manual processes through automation and better workflows.
- Improve reporting accuracy, data visibility, and operational decision-making.
- Support successful system migrations, market onboarding, and company growth initiatives.
- Build clear documentation, so system knowledge is scalable and shared.
- Become a trusted technical partner for teams across the company.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The right person for this role is a technical generalist with strong systems thinking.
You may be a good fit if you have worked in system administration, application support, business systems, technical operations, integrations, reporting, or IT support — and you enjoy solving problems that involve both technology and people.
This role is especially well-suited for someone who wants to move beyond basic IT support into deeper ownership of business systems, integrations, data flows, and operational technology.

Software Systems Engineer Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software systems engineer in Nebraska?
Most Nebraska employers require a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, systems engineering, or a closely related discipline as the baseline entry point. Nebraska does not require a state-issued license specifically for software systems engineers, though engineers who sign off on public-safety infrastructure may pursue Professional Engineer licensure through the Nebraska State Board of Engineers and Architects. Defense-sector roles in Bellevue often require eligibility for a DoD security clearance, which employers typically sponsor after hire.
How much do software systems engineers make in Nebraska?
Software systems engineers in Nebraska earn a median of about $110,900 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,520 for the lowest 10% to over $158,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software systems engineers in Nebraska?
Nebraska software systems engineer roles are posted by Northrop Grumman, ACI Worldwide, and General Dynamics Information Technology and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's concentration of defense contractors around Offutt Air Force Base and major corporate headquarters in Omaha gives the state a particularly strong employer base for systems-focused engineering work.
Which Nebraska cities have the most software systems engineer jobs?
Omaha, Bellevue, and Offutt AFB are the Nebraska cities with the most software systems engineer openings. Omaha dominates because of its dense cluster of financial services firms, insurance technology companies, and defense contractors, while Lincoln draws postings from university-affiliated research programs and state government IT projects, and Bellevue's proximity to Offutt Air Force Base drives steady demand from federal defense contractors.
Are there remote software systems engineer jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 35% of software systems engineer openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of much of the work. The roles most likely to be fully remote are those focused on software architecture, systems modeling, and requirements analysis, while positions requiring lab access, hardware integration, or classified facility work remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a software systems engineer in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a defense contractor new-graduate program or a rotational engineering program at a large Omaha-based corporate employer. Companies like Leidos, SAIC, and Union Pacific recruit new graduates directly from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Creighton University engineering programs, often into associate systems engineer or junior software engineer roles. Building a portfolio that demonstrates systems integration projects or embedded software work, or completing a relevant certification such as the INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional associate level, strengthens applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to software systems engineer jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to software systems engineer jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Nebraska openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the ones that fit your background and target location, and apply directly through each listing without needing to create a profile first.
