Security Software Engineer Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security software engineer in Nebraska?
Nebraska does not require a state-issued license specifically for security software engineers, so the path runs through education and industry credentials. Most employers in the state expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or a related discipline, followed by certifications like CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or CSSLP. Nebraska's concentration of financial services and defense employers means clearance-eligible candidates and those with regulated-industry experience move faster through hiring.
How much do security software engineers make in Nebraska?
Security software engineers in Nebraska earn a median of about $110,900 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,520 for the lowest 10% to over $158,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security software engineers in Nebraska?
Companies currently hiring security software engineers in Nebraska include Metro One LPSG, HDR, and Google, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's financial services sector, anchored in Omaha, and its defense contracting community near Bellevue generate consistent demand for security engineering talent throughout the year.
Which Nebraska cities have the most security software engineer jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Papillion are the Nebraska cities with the most security software engineer openings. Omaha leads because of its dense concentration of financial institutions, insurance headquarters, and healthcare IT organizations, while Lincoln benefits from state government technology agencies and university-affiliated employers, and Bellevue's openings are driven largely by contractors supporting Offutt Air Force Base and U.S. Strategic Command.
Are there remote security software engineer jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of security software engineer openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves code review, threat modeling, and tool configuration that can be done off-site. Roles tied to classified defense programs or on-premises infrastructure at financial institutions are the most likely to require in-person work.
How can I get hired as a security software engineer in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a junior application security or security analyst role at one of Nebraska's large financial institutions, such as First National Bank or Mutual of Omaha, which hire associates and rotate them through engineering teams. State government IT agencies in Lincoln also post entry-level security positions open to recent graduates. Earning CompTIA Security+ before applying, contributing to open-source security tooling, or completing a capstone project in secure development gives candidates from adjacent software roles a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to security software engineer jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to security software engineer jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
