About the team:
Our Platform Engineering team sits at the core of ByteDance’s global traffic infrastructure. We build and operate the edge cloud product system and resource operation framework that powers TikTok’s worldwide services.
We constantly iterate our product models and workflows, apply modern engineering best practices, and keep our entire infrastructure stable, efficient, and cost-effective — ultimately delivering a better experience for both internal teams and external users.
- Edge cloud product development: We build foundational edge computing products, including bare-metal and virtual machine services. We keep refining user experience, optimizing resource delivery, and improving inventory efficiency to better support business growth.
- Global resource operation platform: We’ve built a unified three-tier architecture based on resource data warehouses, cost & billing systems, and resource management platforms. Our team optimizes global resource pool scheduling, improves resource utilization, and drives continuous cost reduction and business scalability.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end design and iteration of core edge cloud products, including container, bare-metal, and network capabilities. You’ll optimize key modules such as user management, billing, inventory, and resource scheduling, polish domain models and workflows, and build stable, secure, and scalable systems for internal and external business scenarios.
- Build a full-lifecycle resource operation platform that covers resource planning, provisioning, delivery, runtime management, and billing. You’ll analyze global resource data, output actionable insights, and continuously improve resource delivery efficiency.
- Develop a unified resource pool management platform that integrates self-hosted and third-party cloud resources. You’ll build resource data and billing systems, improve cost efficiency and resource competitiveness, and support flexible, unified management of global edge cloud resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Networking or related fields, with 3+ years of R&D experience in cloud platform, cloud-native, or edge infrastructure domains.
- Solid foundational knowledge in computer science. Proficient in Go / C++ / Python, with hands-on experience building large-scale backend or infrastructure systems.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture and core components, with practical experience in large-scale cluster operation and optimization.
- Familiar with mainstream virtualization and container technologies, including KVM/QEMU, Virtio, container isolation, and image management.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, log pipelines, and distributed tracing systems.
- Strong architectural thinking, good root-cause analysis skills, and the ability to independently own complex module design, solve technical challenges, and collaborate cross-team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on edge computing, edge cloud, or distributed scheduling platforms.
- Familiar with high-performance network technologies including eBPF, Cilium, DPDK.
- Experience with multi-cloud/hybrid-cloud architecture, OpenStack, or cloud cost & billing system design.
- Domain experience in CDN, streaming media, or audio/video infrastructure systems.
Compensation
- The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $162000 - $387600 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
The Company reserves the right to modify or change these benefits programs at any time, with or without notice.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Cloud Platform Engineer
Verify your CIP code before applying
Your STEM OPT eligibility depends on your degree's CIP code, not just the field name. Check O*NET to confirm that computer science, computer engineering, or information systems degrees align with Cloud Platform Engineer roles before submitting your I-983.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
An employer's STEM OPT sponsorship means nothing if they're not E-Verify enrolled. Ask recruiters directly during the offer stage, or cross-check through the E-Verify employer search tool before signing anything.
Frame your cloud certifications as training plan evidence
AWS, GCP, and Azure certifications strengthen your I-983 training plan by demonstrating structured learning goals. List specific competencies your employer will develop, such as Kubernetes orchestration or infrastructure-as-code, to satisfy the practical training requirement.
Target employers with active LCA filings for platform roles
Employers who've filed Labor Condition Applications for cloud or infrastructure roles through DOL already understand the STEM OPT to H-1B visa pipeline. Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers with verified sponsorship history in platform engineering.
Submit your I-983 before your OPT end date
USCIS requires your I-983 training plan to be signed by both you and your employer before your 24-month extension begins. A gap between your initial OPT expiration and an unsigned plan can interrupt your work authorization.
Use prevailing wage data to benchmark your offer
Cloud Platform Engineer offers below the DOL prevailing wage for your metro area can signal employers unfamiliar with STEM OPT compliance obligations. Run a wage lookup through OFLC Wage Search to verify your offer meets the local Level I or Level II threshold.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Cloud Platform Engineer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Cloud Platform Engineer positions typically qualify because they fall under computer science or information technology CIP codes recognized by USCIS for STEM OPT. The role must involve engineering-level responsibilities in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or platform reliability. Your DSO confirms eligibility based on your specific degree's CIP code, not the job title alone.
What does the I-983 training plan need to include for a cloud engineering role?
Your I-983 must list specific learning objectives tied to the Cloud Platform Engineer position, such as container orchestration, CI/CD pipeline management, or cloud security practices. It requires your employer's signature, a description of supervision structure, and a list of goals you'll achieve during each evaluation period. Generic job descriptions don't satisfy the practical training requirement.
Does my employer need to be enrolled in E-Verify to hire me on STEM OPT?
Yes. E-Verify enrollment is a federal requirement for all STEM OPT employers, not optional. Before accepting an offer, confirm your employer is actively enrolled, not just registered, in E-Verify. Startups and smaller cloud consultancies sometimes lack enrollment, so verify this early in the hiring process rather than after signing an offer letter.
How does cap-gap affect my Cloud Platform Engineer job search if my H-1B is pending?
If you file an H-1B petition before your STEM OPT expires, cap-gap protection extends your work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. You can continue working as a Cloud Platform Engineer during this period without interruption, as long as your employer filed before your EAD expiration and your petition remains pending or approved.
Where can I find Cloud Platform Engineer jobs where employers already understand STEM OPT?
Migrate Mate lists Cloud Platform Engineer roles filtered by employers with verified E-Verify enrollment and LCA filing history, so you're not discovering sponsorship gaps after an offer. Searching by role and authorization type surfaces positions where the hiring team already understands the I-983 process and the 24-month extension timeline.
