Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Power Platform Developer
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code maps to an approved STEM field on the official STEM Designated Degree Program List. Degrees in computer science, management information systems, and software engineering typically qualify, but marketing technology or business analytics degrees sometimes don't.
Filter job listings by E-Verify status
Before submitting an application, confirm the employer is actively enrolled in E-Verify, not just registered. Ask your recruiter or HR contact directly, since enrollment can lapse. Unenrolled employers cannot legally hire you on the 24-month STEM OPT extension.
Document Power Platform projects in your I-983 plan
Your I-983 training plan must tie each work activity to a specific learning objective that aligns with your STEM degree. For Power Platform roles, map Power Automate workflows, Dataverse modeling, and Power Apps development to skills from your degree program, not just job duties.
Target employers with Microsoft licensing contracts
Companies holding Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 enterprise licenses are actively invested in the Power Platform ecosystem and more likely to have established development roles. Ask during screening calls whether the organization has a dedicated Power Platform Center of Excellence.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified STEM OPT employers
Migrate Mate filters Power Platform Developer roles by employers with confirmed E-Verify enrollment and a history of hiring STEM OPT students, so you're not applying blind. Search by location, industry, and skills to narrow to roles where your authorization is already understood.

Find Power Platform Developer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Power Platform Developer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your degree is in an approved STEM field such as computer science, information systems, or software engineering, and the role involves applying that technical knowledge directly. Power Platform development, including building apps in Power Apps, automating workflows in Power Automate, and modeling data in Dataverse, maps clearly to these degree fields. Confirm your degree's CIP code appears on the STEM Designated Degree Program List before applying for the extension through USCIS.
What does the E-Verify requirement mean for my job search as a Power Platform Developer?
Every employer that hires you on the 24-month STEM OPT extension must be actively enrolled in E-Verify, the federal employment eligibility verification system. Active enrollment means the employer has completed registration and is in good standing, not merely registered years ago and inactive. Ask HR to confirm current enrollment status before you accept an offer. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where E-Verify enrollment has been verified, reducing the risk of discovering this issue after an offer is extended.
What should my I-983 training plan include for a Power Platform Developer position?
Your I-983 must connect each work activity to a specific learning goal rooted in your STEM degree, and your employer must sign it. For a Power Platform Developer role, include objectives around data modeling with Dataverse, logic design in Power Automate, and solution architecture in Power Apps, each linked to a relevant concept from your degree curriculum. USCIS and your DSO will both review the plan for genuine academic alignment, not just job responsibilities.
What happens to my STEM OPT authorization if my Power Platform Developer employer is acquired or restructures?
If your employer is acquired, merges, or significantly restructures, you and your DSO must evaluate whether the new legal entity is still enrolled in E-Verify and whether your training plan remains accurate. A change in employer EIN or legal name typically requires an updated I-983 and potentially new E-Verify confirmation. Failing to update your records within the required timeframe can jeopardize your STEM OPT status, so notify your DSO as soon as you learn of any organizational change.
Does cap-gap protection apply if my Power Platform Developer employer files an H-1B petition for me?
Yes, cap-gap protection automatically extends your OPT work authorization if your employer files a timely and properly filed H-1B cap-subject petition before your OPT expires and your OPT end date falls between April 1 and September 30 of that fiscal year. Your STEM OPT extension itself does not grant additional cap-gap coverage beyond the standard OPT cap-gap window. USCIS updates your I-20 through your DSO to reflect the extended authorization period, so coordinate closely with your school before your current authorization lapses.
