Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization in Cyber Security Architect
Verify your CIP code before applying
Pull your degree's CIP code from your DSO and cross-reference it against the Cyber Security Architect SOC code in O*NET. A mismatch between your declared STEM field and the role's classification is the most common reason STEM OPT extensions get denied.
Filter job postings by E-Verify enrollment
Confirm every employer is actively enrolled in E-Verify before you apply, not after you receive an offer. Use Migrate Mate to search Cyber Security Architect roles already filtered for E-Verify-enrolled employers, cutting out the manual vetting step.
Target employers with cleared-facility infrastructure
Many senior Cyber Security Architect roles require security clearances your OPT status makes difficult to obtain. Focus your search on commercial-sector employers in finance, healthcare, and cloud infrastructure, where clearance is not a baseline requirement.
Draft your I-983 training plan before your offer closes
Cyber Security Architect training plans must map your day-to-day work to your STEM degree's learning objectives. Prepare a draft aligned to your specific responsibilities so your employer can sign quickly and your DSO can approve without back-and-forth delays.
Ask employers about cap-gap coverage during negotiation
If your OPT expires before October 1 and your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf, USCIS cap-gap provisions automatically extend your work authorization. Raise this during offer discussions so your employer's legal team can plan the filing timeline accordingly.
Confirm STEM degree requirements in the job description
Cyber Security Architect postings that list a bachelor's degree as preferred rather than required can weaken your STEM OPT extension application. Verify the job description explicitly states a degree requirement in a qualifying STEM field before your employer submits documentation to USCIS.

Find Cyber Security Architect JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Cyber Security Architect role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, Cyber Security Architect is classified under SOC codes covered by STEM OPT eligibility, provided your degree aligns with an approved CIP code in computer science, information security, or a closely related STEM field. Your DSO confirms the CIP-to-SOC match when recommending the extension on your I-20. If there's any ambiguity, cross-check the occupation profile in O*NET before your DSO submits.
How do I confirm my employer is enrolled in E-Verify?
E-Verify enrollment is a legal requirement for any employer hiring a STEM OPT student. You can ask your recruiter or HR contact to provide the company's E-Verify employer ID number, or have your DSO verify enrollment before your training plan is finalized. Employers who are not enrolled cannot legally employ you on a STEM OPT extension, so confirm this before accepting an offer. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from E-Verify-enrolled employers to simplify this step.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for a Cyber Security Architect?
Your I-983 must connect your specific job duties to the learning objectives of your STEM degree. For a Cyber Security Architect role, this means documenting how tasks like threat modeling, security framework design, and risk assessment develop skills tied to your degree field. Both you and your employer's authorized representative sign the form, and your DSO must approve it before your extension begins. USCIS can audit the plan at any point during your extension period.
What happens to my work authorization if I'm selected in the H-1B lottery while on STEM OPT?
If your employer files a cap-subject H-1B petition before your STEM OPT expires and you're selected in the lottery, USCIS cap-gap provisions extend your OPT work authorization through September 30 of that year, or until your H-1B petition is adjudicated. You can continue working as a Cyber Security Architect during this cap-gap period as long as your employer's petition was filed on time and your OPT was valid when filed.
Where can I find Cyber Security Architect jobs from employers who hire STEM OPT students?
Finding employers who actively hire STEM OPT students takes more than a standard job search. Migrate Mate lists Cyber Security Architect roles from employers with verified E-Verify enrollment and documented visa sponsorship history, so you're not wasting applications on companies that won't support your work authorization. Filtering by sponsorship track record before you apply significantly narrows the field to employers already familiar with STEM OPT requirements.
