Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as an Oracle Developer
Verify your CIP code before applying
Not every computer science or IT degree automatically qualifies. Check your official transcript and I-20 to confirm your CIP code maps to an approved STEM designation before your DSO submits the STEM OPT extension request to USCIS.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask your prospective employer directly whether they're enrolled in E-Verify before signing an offer. You can also search by company name in the E-Verify employer search tool to confirm enrollment status independently.
Target Oracle shops with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by DOL Labor Condition Application data tied to Oracle Developer roles, so you're applying to companies with a documented pattern of hiring international STEM talent, not just posting open roles.
Benchmark your offer against OFLC prevailing wages
Pull the prevailing wage for your specific Oracle Developer title and work location using the OFLC Wage Search before evaluating any offer. Your employer's LCA must certify at least the prevailing wage, and underpaying can delay or invalidate your authorization.
Build your I-983 training plan around Oracle project deliverables
Your I-983 must tie your Oracle development work, whether PL/SQL tuning, data modeling, or EBS configuration, to your degree's STEM learning objectives. Generic job descriptions get flagged during DSO review, so map specific project milestones to concrete skills.
File your STEM OPT extension at least 90 days early
USCIS recommends submitting your I-765 extension application no later than 90 days before your initial OPT EAD expires. Late filing can create a gap in work authorization, even if your employer has already started onboarding you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Oracle Developer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your degree is in a qualifying STEM field such as computer science, information systems, or a related discipline with an approved CIP code, and your Oracle Developer role uses that degree in a direct and meaningful way. Check your I-20 CIP code with your DSO before applying for the extension, since USCIS evaluates both the degree and the role together.
What E-Verify requirement applies to my STEM OPT employer?
Any employer hiring you on a STEM OPT extension must be enrolled in E-Verify. This is a federal requirement enforced by ICE, not an optional step. If your employer isn't enrolled at the time you start, your STEM OPT extension is invalid regardless of whether USCIS approved your I-765. Confirm enrollment before your start date, not after.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for an Oracle Developer position?
Your I-983 must describe how your Oracle Developer duties, such as writing PL/SQL stored procedures, designing data schemas, or integrating Oracle EBS modules, connect to the STEM learning objectives from your degree. Both you and your employer sign it, and your DSO reviews it for compliance. Vague descriptions like 'software development' aren't sufficient. Update the I-983 whenever your role or responsibilities change materially.
How does cap-gap work if my employer files an H-1B petition while I'm on STEM OPT?
If your employer files a timely H-1B visa petition and you're selected in the lottery before your STEM OPT EAD expires, cap-gap extends your work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. Your employment must be continuous with the same employer. If your STEM OPT expires before October 1 and cap-gap kicks in, you can keep working under the same Oracle Developer role without interruption, provided the H-1B petition remains pending or approved.
How do I find Oracle Developer jobs where employers are already set up to hire STEM OPT students?
Search on Migrate Mate, which filters Oracle Developer listings by employers with active DOL LCA filing history and E-Verify enrollment. This lets you focus your applications on companies that have already hired STEM OPT candidates rather than starting conversations from scratch about your work authorization status.
