Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization in Technical Solutions Architect
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code maps to a STEM-designated field recognized by ICE. A mismatch between your CIP code and the Solutions Architect role's technical requirements is the most common reason DSOs reject I-983 training plans.
Filter job postings by E-Verify status
Before sending any application, confirm the employer is actively enrolled in E-Verify, not just registered. Use the E-Verify employer search tool to check enrollment status. Expired or inactive enrollment disqualifies the employer from signing your I-983, regardless of how strong the offer is.
Build your I-983 training plan around architecture deliverables
Generic training plans get rejected. Map each learning objective in your I-983 directly to Solutions Architect outputs: system design documents, proof-of-concept builds, or stakeholder presentations. USCIS reviewers look for role-specific goals, not broad technical skill lists.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers with STEM OPT hiring history
Target companies that have sponsored STEM OPT students in technical roles before. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified E-Verify enrollment and STEM OPT hiring patterns for Solutions Architect and adjacent roles, so you can prioritize outreach where authorization is already understood.
Time your application around cap-gap protection
If your OPT expires before October 1 and your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf before your EAD end date, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization. Coordinate your Solutions Architect start date with your DSO and the employer's legal team to avoid any gap in employment.
Use O*NET to anchor your job description in STEM terms
Pull the O*NET occupation profile for Solutions Architect roles to identify the exact technical tasks and knowledge domains recognized by DOL. Use that language in your I-983 and when briefing hiring managers on why the role qualifies, since vague job descriptions are the second most common source of extension denials.

Find Technical Solutions Architect JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Solutions Architect role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your degree is in a STEM-designated field such as computer science, information technology, systems engineering, or a related discipline, and the role requires applying that technical knowledge directly. Solutions Architect positions typically meet USCIS criteria because they demand specialized engineering and systems design expertise. Confirm your degree's CIP code with your DSO before filing the extension.
What E-Verify requirement applies to my STEM OPT employer?
Any employer who signs your I-983 training plan must be actively enrolled in E-Verify at the worksite where you'll be employed. Enrollment at the company's headquarters doesn't automatically cover a different office or subsidiary. Verify the specific worksite's E-Verify status through the E-Verify employer search before accepting an offer, since a non-enrolled site voids your extension eligibility.
What should my I-983 training plan include for a Solutions Architect position?
Your I-983 must connect every learning objective to the specific technical outputs of the Solutions Architect role, such as designing cloud architectures, producing system integration documentation, or conducting feasibility analyses. Objectives written in generic terms like 'develop technical skills' are regularly rejected. Work with your employer's engineering manager, not just HR, to draft goals tied to actual project milestones and deliverables.
How does cap-gap work if my OPT ends before my H-1B start date?
If your employer files an H-1B petition before your EAD expiration date and you're selected in the lottery, cap-gap extends your STEM OPT work authorization automatically through September 30. You can continue working as a Technical Solutions Architect during this period without interruption. USCIS does not issue a new physical document for cap-gap; your I-20 with the cap-gap notation from your DSO serves as proof.
Where can I find Technical Solutions Architect jobs where the employer already understands STEM OPT?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 students on OPT and STEM OPT, and surfaces Technical Solutions Architect roles at employers with verified E-Verify enrollment. Targeting companies already familiar with STEM OPT requirements shortens the negotiation process around training plans and reporting timelines, and reduces the risk of an offer falling through over authorization paperwork.
