Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Senior Technical Analyst
Verify your CIP code before applying
Cross-reference your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the STEM Designated Degree Program List published by ICE. Computer science, information systems, and engineering technology degrees commonly support Senior Technical Analyst roles, but adjacent fields like applied mathematics or statistics may also qualify.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment during screening
Ask recruiters directly whether the company is enrolled in E-Verify before your first interview. An employer that isn't enrolled cannot legally employ you on a STEM OPT extension, regardless of how well the role fits your training plan.
Align your I-983 training goals to the role
Map your training plan objectives to the specific technical deliverables in the job description: data pipeline work, systems analysis, reporting infrastructure. USCIS reviewers look for a direct connection between your degree field and the daily responsibilities listed in the agreement.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Senior Technical Analyst postings by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications, signaling established experience hiring international workers. This narrows your list to companies familiar with the paperwork before you bring it up.
Request the offer letter before your OPT expiration
Your DSO must receive your STEM OPT extension application at least 90 days before your current EAD expires. Build backward from that deadline when negotiating start dates so you aren't caught in an authorization gap between your initial OPT and the extension approval.
Benchmark your offered wage against prevailing rates
Look up the prevailing wage for your occupation code and work location using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer. Your compensation must meet or exceed the applicable wage level for your employer's LCA to be certified by DOL.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Technical Analyst role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on whether the role directly uses your STEM degree and whether your employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Senior Technical Analyst positions in data engineering, systems analysis, and IT infrastructure routinely qualify, but you and your DSO must confirm the connection between your specific CIP code and the job's core responsibilities before USCIS approves the extension.
Which STEM degrees support a Senior Technical Analyst position for OPT purposes?
Degrees in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, data science, applied mathematics, and electrical engineering are the most common matches for Senior Technical Analyst roles. Check the ICE STEM Designated Degree Program List to confirm your exact CIP code qualifies. O*NET classifies this occupation under SOC codes tied to technical analysis and systems work, which helps DSOs validate the connection.
What does the I-983 training plan need to include for a Senior Technical Analyst position?
Your I-983 must detail the specific technical skills you'll develop on the job, the supervision structure, and how the work relates to your degree field. For Senior Technical Analyst roles, that typically means documenting deliverables like system performance analysis, data quality assessments, or reporting frameworks. Both you and your employer sign it, and your DSO must approve it before your extension start date.
How do I find Senior Technical Analyst employers who are already enrolled in E-Verify?
Migrate Mate surfaces Senior Technical Analyst postings from employers with documented hiring history for international workers, making it easier to identify companies already set up for STEM OPT. You can also ask recruiters directly or look up a company's E-Verify participation status through the E-Verify employer search tool maintained by the Department of Homeland Security.
What happens to my STEM OPT authorization if my employer loses E-Verify enrollment?
If your employer's E-Verify enrollment lapses or is terminated, your STEM OPT authorization is no longer valid for continued employment there. USCIS requires active E-Verify participation throughout the extension period, not just at the time of filing. You'd need to find a new E-Verify-enrolled employer and work with your DSO to update your I-983 and SEVIS record promptly.
