Verify your degree's CIP code eligibility
STEM OPT applies only to degrees on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Check that your major's CIP code, listed on your I-20, falls under mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related quantitative field before applying.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify for your STEM OPT extension to be valid. Search the E-Verify employer search tool by company name to confirm active enrollment status before signing any offer letter.
Build your I-983 training plan around quant deliverables
Frame your I-983 training plan around specific learning objectives tied to quantitative analysis: model development, backtesting, risk metrics, or statistical inference. Generic descriptions get flagged by DSOs and can delay your extension approval.
Target financial firms with dedicated quantitative research teams
Asset managers, hedge funds, and investment banks that run structured quant programs are more likely to have E-Verify enrollment and experience with STEM OPT paperwork than smaller fintech startups or non-financial employers.
Use Migrate Mate to find E-Verify-enrolled employers hiring quant analysts
Search Migrate Mate to filter quantitative analyst openings by employers verified through E-Verify enrollment, so you aren't wasting applications on companies that can't legally support your STEM OPT extension.

Find Quantitative Analyst JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does my degree qualify me for a STEM OPT extension as a Quantitative Analyst?
STEM OPT eligibility depends on your degree's CIP code appearing on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, not the job title itself. Degrees in mathematics, statistics, computer science, financial mathematics, and operations research typically qualify. Check the CIP code printed on your I-20 against the DHS list to confirm before your DSO submits the STEM OPT extension request.
What E-Verify requirement applies to my STEM OPT employer?
Any employer who hires you on a STEM OPT extension must be actively enrolled in E-Verify at the specific work site where you'll be employed. This is a federal requirement enforced by ICE, not a company policy choice. Verify enrollment using the E-Verify employer search tool before you accept an offer. Remote work arrangements require the employer's primary worksite to be enrolled.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for a Quantitative Analyst role?
The I-983 must outline practical training goals directly tied to your quantitative analyst responsibilities, the STEM skills you'll develop, how the employer will supervise and evaluate your progress, and how the work relates to your degree. Generic entries like 'financial analysis' aren't sufficient. Specific learning objectives, such as developing pricing models or applying time-series methods to portfolio data, make the plan defensible if ICE reviews it.
How does cap-gap protection apply if I'm on STEM OPT and get selected in the H-1B lottery?
If your STEM OPT extension is active on April 1 and your H-1B petition is filed for October 1 start, cap-gap protection automatically extends your work authorization through September 30. Your EAD remains valid during this gap without additional filing. This protection applies only if your STEM OPT extension was properly approved and your I-765 for H-1B change of status was timely filed by your employer.
Where can I find Quantitative Analyst jobs at E-Verify-enrolled employers?
Migrate Mate lists quantitative analyst openings filtered by employers enrolled in E-Verify, which removes a major research step for STEM OPT students. You can browse roles in quantitative research, risk analytics, and algorithmic trading without manually cross-checking each company's E-Verify status before applying.
