Verify your CIP code before applying
Check your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Computer Science (11.0701) and Management Information Systems (52.1201) both qualify, but some business-adjacent degrees don't. Confirm with your DSO before targeting roles.
Filter employers by E-Verify enrollment status
Your STEM OPT employer must be enrolled in E-Verify before your extension begins. Search Migrate Mate to surface Salesforce Administrator roles at companies already flagged as E-Verify participants, so you're not discovering the gap after an offer.
Target Salesforce ISV partners and consulting firms
Independent software vendors and Salesforce implementation partners hire administrators at scale and process I-983 training plans routinely. These employers understand structured learning objectives, which makes the training plan negotiation faster and less likely to stall your start date.
Draft your I-983 training plan before the offer stage
Employers unfamiliar with STEM OPT often delay signing the I-983 because they don't know what goes in it. Prepare a draft that maps your Salesforce Administrator duties to specific STEM learning goals before you receive an offer, so you can hand it to HR immediately.
Use the OFLC Wage Search to anchor salary conversations
STEM OPT doesn't require prevailing wage compliance the way H-1B visa does, but employers sometimes underpay OPT workers. Pull the Salesforce Administrator wage level from the OFLC Wage Search for your metro area before negotiating, so you're negotiating from a documented baseline.
Time your extension filing to cover your cap-gap window
If you're also pursuing H-1B sponsorship, your STEM OPT extension must be filed and your status maintained through October 1 to benefit from cap-gap protection. Work with your DSO to confirm your extension application is submitted at least 90 days before your initial OPT EAD expires.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Salesforce Administrator role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not just the job title. The role itself falls under computer and information systems occupations, but your extension eligibility is determined by whether your degree's CIP code appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Degrees in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Information Technology typically qualify. Confirm your CIP code with your DSO before accepting an offer.
What E-Verify requirement applies to my Salesforce Administrator employer?
Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify before your STEM OPT extension begins. This is a hard requirement under USCIS rules, not a preference. If your employer isn't enrolled at the time your extension starts, you're not authorized to work. Ask HR to provide their E-Verify Company ID or confirmation of enrollment before you finalize your start date.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for a Salesforce Administrator position?
The I-983 requires a description of how your Salesforce Administrator duties connect to your STEM degree's learning outcomes. For this role, that typically means mapping Salesforce configuration, data management, and systems integration work to competencies like database administration, information systems design, or software application management. Your employer signs the form and your DSO authorizes it. USCIS can audit the plan, so the connection to your degree must be substantive, not generic.
How does cap-gap protection work if I'm on STEM OPT and my employer files an H-1B petition?
If your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf before your STEM OPT EAD expires and you're selected in the lottery, cap-gap extends your work authorization through September 30. Your STEM OPT extension must still be valid when the H-1B petition is filed. A gap in your OPT status before the petition is filed breaks cap-gap eligibility entirely, so maintaining continuous valid status matters.
Where can I find Salesforce Administrator jobs at E-Verify enrolled employers?
Migrate Mate surfaces Salesforce Administrator roles filtered for employers who meet STEM OPT requirements, including E-Verify enrollment. Searching there lets you focus your applications on positions where the authorization infrastructure is already in place, rather than discovering E-Verify gaps after you've gone through multiple interview rounds with a company.
