Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Technical Services Manager
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your STEM degree's CIP code appears on the STEM Designated Degree Program List. Technical Services Manager roles span engineering and IT disciplines, so a mismatch between your degree field and the role's technical requirements can trigger a STEM OPT denial.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask your recruiter for the company's E-Verify Company ID or look up enrollment status directly through E-Verify before signing anything. A Technical Services Manager offer from a non-enrolled employer cannot legally support your STEM OPT extension, regardless of role fit.
Target employers with active LCA filings in technical management
Search the OFLC Wage Search to find companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for technical or engineering management roles. Consistent LCA activity signals an employer already understands work authorization compliance and won't need educating on your status.
Structure your I-983 around measurable technical outcomes
Your I-983 training plan must show how the Technical Services Manager role applies STEM knowledge directly. Frame learning objectives around systems performance metrics, cross-functional engineering coordination, or technical process improvements rather than generic management tasks that won't satisfy SEVP requirements.
Find STEM OPT employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Technical Services Manager listings by verified E-Verify enrollment, so every role you see already clears the baseline requirement for your STEM OPT extension. Search by your degree field to surface employers whose LCA history aligns with your technical background.
Time your H-1B petition to cap-gap protection
If your employer files an H-1B visa petition before April 1 of your third OPT year, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 even if your EAD expires first. Coordinate with your DSO well before your OPT end date to avoid an authorization gap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Services Manager role qualify for STEM OPT?
It depends on your degree, not just the job title. The role must directly apply knowledge from your STEM field, and your degree's CIP code must appear on the STEM Designated Degree Program List. Technical Services Manager positions in engineering operations, IT infrastructure, or systems integration typically qualify when the hiring manager can document that connection in the I-983 training plan.
Does my employer need to be enrolled in E-Verify to hire me on STEM OPT?
Yes. E-Verify enrollment is a federal requirement for all STEM OPT employers, with no exceptions. Before accepting an offer, confirm the company's enrollment status through E-Verify directly. If the employer isn't enrolled by the time your STEM OPT extension starts, your work authorization won't be valid regardless of what your EAD card shows.
What should my I-983 training plan include for a Technical Services Manager role?
Your I-983 must describe how the position applies specific STEM skills from your degree, not just general management duties. For a Technical Services Manager role, that means documenting learning objectives tied to technical problem-solving, engineering team oversight, system performance analysis, or process optimization. Vague management language without a clear STEM application is the most common reason SEVP flags a training plan.
How does cap-gap work if my OPT expires during H-1B season?
Cap-gap automatically extends your STEM OPT work authorization if your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf before April 1 and USCIS receives it before your OPT end date. Your authorization continues through September 30 of that year. If the petition is selected in the lottery and approved, your H-1B status begins October 1 without any gap in employment.
Where can I find Technical Services Manager jobs where employers are already set up for STEM OPT?
Migrate Mate lists Technical Services Manager roles filtered by verified E-Verify enrollment, so you're only seeing employers who already meet the baseline STEM OPT requirement. You can search by your specific STEM degree field to match roles where your CIP code aligns with what the employer's technical work actually requires.
