Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Salesforce Engineer
Verify your degree CIP code first
Check that your STEM degree carries a CIP code recognized by ICE for STEM OPT eligibility before applying to roles. Computer science, information systems, and software engineering codes all qualify for the 24-month extension covering Salesforce Engineer positions.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask recruiters directly whether the employer is enrolled in E-Verify before your final interview round. STEM OPT requires active E-Verify enrollment, so an offer from a non-enrolled employer means you can't authorize the extension, regardless of how strong the role is.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Salesforce Engineer roles
Search Migrate Mate to find Salesforce Engineer openings at employers who already hire STEM OPT workers. The platform surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which companies have a proven track record with this authorization status.
Negotiate your I-983 training plan scope
Before signing an offer, confirm the employer will document Salesforce-specific learning goals in the I-983, including platform certifications, system architecture exposure, and integration projects. A vague training plan creates compliance risk and may delay your DSO approval.
Target employers with Salesforce partner status
Salesforce consulting partners and ISV partners typically run dedicated technical tracks for early-career engineers, which gives you the structured, documented work experience your I-983 needs. Their recruiting pipelines are also accustomed to processing STEM OPT authorization paperwork.
Check prevailing wage before your 60-day job search window
Pull the OFLC Wage Search for your target metro area and Salesforce Engineer SOC code before your OPT end date. Knowing the Level I and Level II wage floors lets you assess offers accurately and flag employers whose compensation may not meet DOL requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Salesforce Engineer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your employer classifies the position under a qualifying SOC code such as Software Developers or Computer Systems Analysts, and your underlying degree carries a STEM-designated CIP code. Your DSO confirms eligibility when processing your STEM OPT extension application, so verify both the job SOC code and your degree CIP code before submitting to USCIS.
What must an employer do before I can start on STEM OPT as a Salesforce Engineer?
Your employer must be actively enrolled in E-Verify, and an authorized company official must co-sign your I-983 training plan before your DSO submits the STEM OPT extension request. The I-983 must outline specific Salesforce-related learning objectives, supervision structure, and how the role connects to your STEM degree field. USCIS can audit this documentation at any point during your authorization period.
How does the cap-gap rule affect me if I'm a Salesforce Engineer on STEM OPT?
If your employer files an H-1B visa petition on your behalf before your STEM OPT expires, the cap-gap provision automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year while USCIS adjudicates the petition. You can continue working as a Salesforce Engineer under cap-gap without interruption, but your employer's H-1B filing must be timely and your STEM OPT must be valid at the time of filing.
What should my I-983 training plan include for a Salesforce Engineer position?
Your I-983 must describe how the Salesforce Engineer role applies your STEM degree, list concrete learning goals such as Salesforce platform architecture, Apex development, or integration engineering, identify a named supervisor, and outline how the employer will evaluate your progress. Generic job descriptions copied into the form are a common audit trigger, so the training plan should reflect the actual technical scope of your specific role.
Where can I find Salesforce Engineer jobs at employers who hire STEM OPT students?
Migrate Mate filters Salesforce Engineer roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications with the DOL, which signals familiarity with work authorization processes including STEM OPT. Searching Migrate Mate lets you focus your applications on companies already set up for E-Verify enrollment and structured onboarding, rather than spending interview cycles on employers who haven't hired on STEM OPT before.
