What’s the interview process like?
It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience interview (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.

We provide reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities, long-term conditions, mental health needs, religious observances, neurodivergence, or pregnancy-related support requirements. Candidates with experience in SaaS metrics, unit economics, or venture-stage financial modeling stand out in this market. Networking within the local startup and tech finance community also opens doors faster than applying cold.
Which companies hire strategic finance analysts in San Francisco?

Fully remote positions tend to appear most often at later-stage tech companies that have already distributed their finance functions across multiple offices.
How can I get a strategic finance analyst job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is moving into a junior FP&A or financial analyst role at a San Francisco startup, where smaller teams give early-career candidates broader exposure faster. Rotational finance programs at larger technology companies headquartered in the city also provide structured pathways. Building familiarity with tools like Looker, Adaptive Insights, or Salesforce reporting gives candidates a concrete edge, since San Francisco employers commonly list those alongside core Excel and modeling skills.
