Structural Designer Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a structural designer in Oklahoma?
Most structural designer roles in Oklahoma require a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering, and employers typically expect candidates to be working toward or holding an Engineer-in-Training credential administered by the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is the clearest early credential that opens doors. Larger Oklahoma firms, particularly those serving the energy and commercial construction sectors, also value hands-on experience with local code requirements and regional wind load standards.
How much do structural designers make in Oklahoma?
Structural designers in Oklahoma earn a median of about $98,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,550 for the lowest 10% to over $153,470 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire structural designers in Oklahoma?
Employers hiring structural designers in Oklahoma right now include Jobot, Northrop Grumman, and CEC Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's energy corridor and active commercial development pipeline keep structural design headcount relatively stable at established engineering and construction firms across the state.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most structural designer jobs?
Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Kansas account for the most structural designer openings in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City dominates because of its concentration of engineering consulting firms, commercial development, and state infrastructure projects, while Tulsa's industrial base and petroleum-related construction activity sustain consistent demand, and Norman's proximity to the University of Oklahoma and regional contractors supports a smaller but steady pipeline of roles.
Are there remote structural designer jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, but they're rare. About 10% of structural designer openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, drawing-review, and site-coordination nature of the role. The portions of the work most compatible with remote arrangements are preliminary design, calculations review, and CAD drafting, while construction administration and client-facing phases typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a structural designer in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to engineering technician or CAD designer roles at mid-size Oklahoma civil or structural engineering firms, where you can build hands-on experience under licensed engineers. Firms in Oklahoma City and Tulsa that support oil and gas infrastructure or commercial construction regularly onboard recent graduates in supporting drafting roles. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam gives candidates without experience a concrete credential advantage, and assembling a portfolio of academic or project-based structural drawings accelerates hiring conversations at firms like local MEP and structural consultancies.
Where can I find and apply to structural designer jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to structural designer jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current Oklahoma openings updated in real time. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly through the listings.
