Entry Level Structural Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level structural engineer job?
Entry level structural engineer employers look for a relevant degree in civil or structural engineering, proficiency in software like AutoCAD or SAP2000, and demonstrated project work. Internship experience, a portfolio showing load analysis or design work, and familiarity with building codes give candidates a clear edge. Targeting firms that explicitly list zero to two years of experience as acceptable keeps your applications focused on roles built for this stage.
Which companies hire entry level structural engineers?
Companies hiring entry level structural engineers right now include DCI Engineers, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, and Burns & McDonnell, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Engineering consultancies, construction firms, and government infrastructure agencies are among the most consistent employers at this level, as they run structured graduate programs and take on new talent year-round.
Are there remote entry level structural engineer jobs?
Yes, though most roles at this level are on-site or hybrid given the hands-on nature of structural work. About 16% of entry level structural engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so options exist for candidates who need flexibility, particularly in design-focused or documentation-heavy roles where site presence is less critical.
Are these new grad structural engineer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior structural engineer roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts internships or co-op placements toward the requirement, or accepts a strong portfolio in place of full-time history. Filtering for those criteria keeps your search focused on roles open to candidates entering the field for the first time.
Which industries hire the most entry level structural engineers?
Entry Level structural engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they involve ongoing infrastructure projects, new construction cycles, or regulatory requirements that create steady demand for junior engineers who can support senior staff and grow into independent contributors.
