Entry Level Surgical Dental Assistant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level surgical dental assistant job?
Start by completing a dental assisting program that includes surgical or oral surgery rotations, since hands-on clinical hours signal readiness to employers more than coursework alone. Highlight any externship experience, chairside skills, and familiarity with sterilization protocols on your resume. Entry level candidates who can demonstrate instrument knowledge and patient communication give themselves a clear edge when applying to oral surgery practices.
Which companies hire entry level surgical dental assistants?
Companies hiring entry level surgical dental assistants right now include Emory Healthcare, MercyOne, and Advocate Aurora Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, hiring tends to come from oral and maxillofacial surgery practices, multi-specialty dental groups, and hospital-affiliated dental departments that build their teams from new graduates.
Are there remote entry level surgical dental assistant jobs?
Yes, though the role is largely clinical and on-site by nature. About 3% of entry level surgical dental assistant openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and these positions typically involve administrative, patient coordination, or insurance support functions rather than chairside duties. Most hands-on surgical assisting roles require full on-site presence.
Are these new grad surgical dental assistant jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior surgical dental assistant roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts externship or clinical rotation hours in place of paid work history, or explicitly invites candidates with a dental assisting certificate or associate degree to apply without prior surgical office experience.
Which industries hire the most entry level surgical dental assistants?
Entry Level surgical dental assistant roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Science & Research, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive entry level hiring because they rely on consistent patient volume and frequently bring on new graduates to train alongside experienced surgical teams.
