System Safety Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a system safety engineer in Texas?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline, followed by entry into a defense or aerospace program where you apply safety standards hands-on. Texas does not require a state-issued license specific to system safety engineering, but many employers treat a Certified Safety Professional credential or Systems Safety Society certification as a strong differentiator. Gaining clearance eligibility and MIL-STD-882 exposure early accelerates hiring at major Texas defense contractors.
How much do system safety engineers make in Texas?
System safety engineers in Texas earn a median of about $123,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,340 for the lowest 10% to over $180,480 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire system safety engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring system safety engineers in Texas right now include ALTRUIST, Five9, and HP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of defense primes, aerospace integrators, and energy infrastructure firms means consistent year-round openings across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most system safety engineer jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas have the most system safety engineer openings in Texas. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and San Antonio draw the bulk of defense and aerospace work through large contractor campuses and military installations like Fort Sam Houston, while Houston's openings lean toward energy, rail, and industrial process safety.
Are there remote system safety engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. System safety engineering typically requires hands-on involvement with hardware, test events, and program reviews that are difficult to perform fully remotely. About 17% of system safety engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and the roles most likely to allow it are documentation-heavy positions such as safety case development, hazard analysis writing, and regulatory compliance review.
How can I get hired as a system safety engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying to systems or safety analyst roles at major Texas defense primes such as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, or L3Harris, which run structured new-graduate rotational and associate programs at their Texas campuses. Candidates coming from systems engineering, reliability engineering, or quality assurance backgrounds can move laterally into safety roles on program teams. Completing a Certified Safety Professional or Associate Safety Professional credential and building exposure to MIL-STD-882 through coursework or internships gives an early-career candidate a concrete edge in Texas interviews.
Where can I find and apply to system safety engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to system safety engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
