Systems Engineer Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a systems engineer job in Philadelphia?
Focus your search on Philadelphia's three strongest hiring sectors: defense and aerospace at the Navy Yard, health systems technology around University City and Center City hospital networks, and telecom and utilities firms headquartered throughout the region. Candidates who hold active security clearances or experience with systems integration in regulated industries have a clear edge here. Tailoring your resume to mission-critical environments and large-scale infrastructure projects reflects what Philadelphia employers prioritize most.
Which companies hire systems engineers in Philadelphia?
Companies currently hiring systems engineers in Philadelphia include Noblis, The GBS, and Alutiiq, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Philadelphia's hiring landscape mixes large federal contractors, major health systems, and regional utilities, giving systems engineers a broad range of employer types and project environments to consider.
Are there remote systems engineer jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role: systems engineers working on physical infrastructure, hardware integration, or on-site government contracts are rarely remote, while those focused on architecture, documentation, and software-defined systems have more flexibility. About 58% of systems engineer openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the highest remote share found in enterprise IT and cloud systems roles rather than defense or lab-based positions.
How can I get a systems engineer job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is through junior systems analyst or IT operations roles at health systems like Jefferson or Penn Medicine, or through entry-level positions at defense contractors that offer clearance sponsorship and structured rotation programs. Drexel co-op alumni networks and Temple University's engineering pipeline also feed directly into local employer recruiting. Building hands-on lab experience with networking, Linux, or cloud platforms strengthens applications considerably in Philadelphia's technically demanding hiring environment.
Which industries hire the most systems engineers in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia systems engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Government & Public Sector, and Insurance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Philadelphia's role as a hub for federal contracting, major academic medical centers, and legacy telecommunications infrastructure makes these sectors the dominant and most consistent sources of local systems engineering demand.
